What is "cameo" in a persian?

I'm searching for a persian kitten for my grandma (as posted on the other board) and I found a breeder in my state with kittens I would be interested in.

I looked throught the remaining beauties available and e-mailed about a cameo kitten.

The trouble is, I have no idea what colors persians come in, or anything. What is cameo? To me the kitten looked orange and white in the picture.

I'm not insulting the cat or breeder. I just don;t know cat coats, I guess. I'll be the first to admit, I'm a dog person through and through.

I just wanted to add, too - I had no idea cats were so darn expensive!!

Chinchilla Silver and Shaded Silver Persian cats have beautiful emerald green eyes, pure white under coat, black tipping, eye liner and nose leather giving an over all angelic look. These wonderful creatures owe these qualities to an inhibitor gene that pushes the black color to the tips of the hair and a tabby gene that provides the eye liner and nose leather.

When the inhibitor gene is present together with black or red solid genes the result is a deep copper eye color combined with an elegant black smoke or exquisite red cameo. These gorgeous cats have a black or red mantle and a pure white undercoat that they show off as they propel themselves forward.

In a nutshell, Cream Cameo or Red Cameo is the same as a Cream Smoke or a Red Smoke, which is a Cream or Red cat with a white (silver) undercoat. I think they are called Cameo because the color reminds one of the color of old Cameo necklaces!

Cameo(Red shaded or Cream shaded, or tipped) is a mix of white, cream and red. It's very beautiful and very rare over here in NZ. If you're unsure about the picture you have seen. Do a google search for 'Cameo Persians' and you might get some clearer photos. I breed Cameo Persians, so if you would like to see some photos of mine, Just let me know.
