You may or may not be aware that this is the year of the 17-year cicada. Apparently, this particular type of cicada only appears every 17 years. Anyway, when I was visiting my parents last week, my dad suggested bringing some cicadas home for Charlotte to see what she would do with them. I carried them home in a plastic bag. As soon as I walked through the door, Charlotte immediately was aware I had brought something home despite I hadn't presented them to her yet!! I then placed the cicadas into a jar covered with a tissue and Charlotte was mesmerized for the next 1 hour.

PS: No cicadas were harmed !!

What fun!

I didn't realize they were 17 year ones, I thought just 7 years.

I read a "funny" article about them not too long ago about how emergency rooms get children in after they have accidents due to the bugs. Bike wrecks and the likes - mainly due to being startled.

I haven't seen any in my area. Yet.

Now I'm off to look at the slideshow.

OH BOY! That's a cute slideshow!! I have ZILLIONS of cicadas where I live and it's almost IMPOSSIBLE to walk outside without stepping (crunch) on one! EWWWWWWWWWWWW..

One cicada got into my apt by accident last week and all 4 of my cats were all gathered in a circle staring at this cicada when I came back in. (I went out to throw trash out and the cicada must've hopped/flew in when I opened the door). When I walked in and saw the cats in a circle all staring at something, I went over and when I saw it was a cicada,
I FREAKED OUT!!! I was like "OHH EW EW EW EW EW!!" I scrambled all
over trying to find something to shoo the cicada out with cuz I didn't want to kill it and have the juice all over my carpet!

The cats weren't too happy with me shooing the cicada out and not allowing them to play with it!
