I also pray that Starlight just slipped out of someone's loving home and has been lost, and that would explain the condition you found him in. I seriously hope that someone did not just dump out such a beautiful cat.
I am so glad that your friend called you and brought the cat to you, she must know as well as us, that if there's anyone who could help it is you
How is Starlight this morning and please let us know what you find out once he goes to the vet.

This might be a dumb question, but if you can't find his owners are you going to keep him?

I am really hoping the same thing. That poor cat looks really bad right now, but I can tell that once he is cleaned up and given some good care he'll be absolutely beautiful, and who would want to dump a cat like that anyway????? So I really want to give his owners the benefit of the doubt right now, especially since cats can and do go missing through no fault of their owner.

Let us know what you find out, Hissy.

I can't keep him. He needs to be in a home where he is the only cat and pampered and loved. Here he would be loved and somewhat spoiled, but I can't stop the cats from getting outside, and he does not belong outside. Plus my crew is so rough and tumble and he is so dainty and fragile. Cassandra said she is moving soon near me, perhaps she might take him. But here forever? Bad plan.

MA, I gotta put in my 2cents worth there, When he gets over his recent abuse, he may not be as dainty and fragile as you might think ! My Babycakes is dainty for a Himmy, only weighs about 5lbs soaking wet, but if she gets into it with anyone else, its a safe bet that she's gonna come out on top, even our 15 lb Heifer-cat doesn't start a row with her, he'd rather start one with the 10lb tomcat, 'cause he knows his chances of winning are better!

Goodness me, what a disgrace. I am praying he escaped and his owners are loving, caring people who find him.

Poor baby - I am wishing him or her the very best. The kitty has so many people who care for him with the help of this board, he is in the best of hands.

Good luck at the vets Mary Anne- I'll be checking in after the show for an update.

That matt is horrible. Yip never bath a cat that has matts or knots because trust me it's 100 times worse after.

Persians do have a good way of adjusting, I hope you can keep him.

Hey Mary Anne,

I know that Starlight was picked up in Washington about 10 miles from Benton City. Craig's Aunt found it on her drive down to Oregon to visit Craig's mom. They saw it on the side of the road and turned around and picked it up. It was then brough to his family in Oregon where they gave it some shelter and food.

Craig heard that they might have to turn it into the humane society. He asked them to wait, because I knew someone that is near there that might be able to help. That's when he told me of the story, and God Bless You Mary Anne. You called me instantly.

There was a miscommunication at first, but it was settled. I'm thrilled that this cat is with you, and that it's being given the best chance it has. Please keep Craig and I updated on how Starlight is.

I'll be checking for your post-vet report...Bless you and Cassie and the folks who took the time to pick him up. I see a beautiful sweet
of a cat under all the mats...stunning I think.

I hope he/she gets a clean bill of health despite what is to be expected after being outside for a bit, and I bet we can help a home to be found.

What a lucky cat...wonder if this was it's 9th life or not?

Anyway...
to all involved,

Keep on coming back to see if you've got back yet Hissy, but I'm holding my breath in case of what you are going to say. Good vibes still coming over.

Just got back- here is the report- ear mites, fleas URI-- lice-they shaved him his rear, his back legs, tummy chest and neck. He got an antibiotic shot, wormer, panalog creme for his raw bum, terramycin for his eyes. He was de-fleaed, given subcu, and blood was drawn. He was extremely dehydrated, weighs in at a whopping 4 pounds! Vet puts him just under a year old. Said he had to be out in the brush for months to develop all these problems, said he smelled like a sheep farm.
He was very tolerant until they got to his rear and his rear legs, upon further examination, it was found that his claws were all curled and growing into his pads! He was slightly sedated and the claws were trimmed. Vet said he wouldn't have lasted much longer on his own-
I brought him home and I bathed him. Not the best bath like he needs, but enough to at least try and get some surface dirt off him. The only problem now is when he sees me he turns away in fear.

He is on antibiotics and I have him on kitten glop to help sustain him- Right now he is in the carrier wrapped around some sock warmers and glaring at me.

AWWW, MA, bless your (and his ) heart! If he's like most Persians, he won't hold a grudge for long, especially as he starts feeling better. Now, what I need to do is explain to my hub that I really do need a plane ticket to come see you and help you love that poor creature!
