Hi There everyone. This is my 1st time on the Cat site. I am looking for advice for my pussy cat who ahs had kittens. She came to be in my care about 3 months ago as a stray and she had 5 babies 8 weeks ago. The last of her kittens left on Sunday and her milk has not stopped producing and her mamary glands are enormous. Is this normal and is there anything i can do to help her or will it settle down in time. Thanks for any help anyone can give. Love kerry

Welcome to thecatsite! It usually takes about a week or two before the glands begin to reduce and the milk goes away. Just keep an eye on her tummy and if you see her nipples looking red, or swollen or if she is worrying one in particular and causing it to leak, wrap her tummy up and get her to the vet.

Ive just had a wee look and they all seem nice and pink. Bit on the swollen side and sort of bulging bits at her side. They dont seem to bother her as much as it was worrying me and my wee girl. Thank you very much for putting my mind at rest. Love Kerry

Hi Kerry! I'm glad Hissy was able to help put your mind at ease. Just keep an eye on her and follow Hissy's advice - she speaks from experience.

Quick question - is this kitty in your permanent care now? If so, even if she's an outside kitty, you should consider getting her spayed now that all the kittens are weaned. It'll be so much healthier for her in the long run! If you'd like to learn more, there's a link in my signature line that will take you to very useful information.

Also, if you're financially constrained, if you need to find a low-cost service, please feel free to use the link in my signature line to search for low-cost spay services in your area. If you can't find any, you can always contact your vet to see if they know of any such services in the area, or you can contact SpayUSA to have them help negotiate a price with your local vet.
