I am new here, but I have a great many questions regarding Grissom. A few days after his adoption he developed an upper respitory problem; sneezing, congestion, and goopy eyes. We took him to the vet (A different one than I used when I was at home) and he told us Grissom had feline chlamydia. He wasn't very helpful and I have been looking some things up on the illness online, but I have a few questions that weren't really answered.

First, how often will these bouts reoccur? His eyes cleared up with drops and the other problems have went away but I heard that this disease is one that is chronic and reoccuring.
Is there anything I can do to prevent these outbreaks or make them less freequent?
How contagious is the disease? I know it can be spread to other cats, which is disappointing since I had hoped to adopt a few more as well as socialize him with my mothers cat. But can dogs get it?
Just basic prevention information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks so much!

There are preventative vaccinations against this, and other cats are susceptible for the bacteria will thrive for two weeks in room temperature. I would start this cat on 2 drops of GSE in her canned food once a day. GSE is Grapefruit Seed Extract you can buy the liquid at any quality health food store or buy it online.
