Hello! This is my first visit!
I found a male kitten 6 days ago, i guess hes about 3 weeks old. He was ok, until yesterday. Now he has diarea, and i saw a bit blood in his poo. Vet said its because of the worms, so i gave him the pill. But i checked him out half an hour ago, and he didnt seem ok. He refuses to eat and he wasnt up to his usual tricks.
I fed him with cow milk mixed with water, soft cow cheese and whiskas junior.
Can somebody tell me what is wrong with him?
Thanks!

Well, I'm not very knowledgeable about these things, but what jumps out at me is the cows milk. From what I've heard, cow's milk is not appropriate for cats and could very well cause diarrhea. I'm guessing the cheese could likely have the same effect. Kittens don't need to eat cheese.

I don't know much about 3-week old kittens. Are they still nursing at this age if they're with their mothers? Maybe they need a kitten milk replacement. I'm sure someone will reply to this thread and know the answer to that.

I'm also thinking that a high quality kitten food would be a good choice, too.

Even if you make some changes in food/drink, in my opinion you need to get this kitten to a vet again.

Hi Micek-

Welcome to the board. Blood in the stool of a kitten so young can be caused by several things. He could have coccidia, giardia, colitis, Diarrhea can also be the cause of severe diseases like feline leukemia, distemper, and FIP.

Please don't feed cow's milk. At three weeks he should still be getting bottle fed KMR (Kitten Milk Replacer. You can buy what you need at a good grocery store or pet food store or from your vet. If he is eating canned food, then he is older than 3 weeks old. You can feed him Kitten Glop- I will get the recipe for you in a sec.

But in the meantime you need to replace the fluid he is losing and either give him some Pedialyte or make your own:

1 cup boiled water (then cooled)
small pinch of baking soda
small pinch of salt
2 teaspoons sugar

Mix all ingredients well.Make sure the mixture has been slightly warmed before feeding it to the kitten. If you are using an eye dropper or syringe, so slowly so the kitten will not aspirate. PLEASE do not feed him cow's milk as this can cause diarrhea and stomach upset.

Let us know if you have any questions at any time
