This story was on the local news this morning:

http://www.firstcoastnews.com/news/n...?storyid=18941

They interviewed the boy, who was attacked by an alligator while swimming in a lake next to his Grandma's house. It is amazing he survived and only has minor injuries. He is a very lucky boy
The alligator attacked his head and then he punched him
He said he won't be swimming in that lake again anytime soon, who can blame him?

There was a cute part to the story, they asked his younger brother what he thought about his brother after the attack. He said he thought he was really brave because he was attacked by an alligator and didn't even cry.

One very lucky boy!.

I remember when i first visited Florida, we went to the everglades. There was a place where they had alligators and snakes with handlers who were indians?!. They were putting their heads in their mouths of the alligators

I've never seen a set of teeth like i did on those babies!!

One lucky and brave kid, indeed!

Rosie, I have been there.... When we got to the Everglades, was the place through Interstate 75? Alligator Alley? I saw that place. Its in the Seminole reservation. When you are going on I-75 from Naples to Miami, over halfway there before getting to Ft. Lauderdale there is an exit where you reach the reservation.

There are several museums there along with a park/zoo on repitles... I would recommend it a lot.

(BTW, if you want to feel alone on the world, take the Alligator Alley... riding several hundreds of miles where all you will find outside of your car and the road is swamp on both sides is a tad lonely
)

The other good place on Alligators I saw in Florida is a little park in St. Augustine on the A1A road called "Alligator Park". They claim to have every species of alligator. Including the albino crocodile... a white alligator!

I live in Titusville, and with it being breeding season we are seeing a lot more gators around. They usually are pretty shy, but not at this time of year!

I've been in the water with gators before. They usually do leave you alone. I've been wading in the river and had one swim so close I could've touched it. By not panicing and screaming I didn't make myself look like prey and was able to stay safe. I've also been in the water with sharks and the same rules apply.

I saw this story on the news and the boy did the right thing by punching the gator. Despite the fact that gators are a major predator, they prfer food that doesn't fight back!

Ewwww sharks
I live in Jax and if I stay home and decide to go near the water it's always the beach. I have never seen a gator up close, but the sharks are around.

It's a good thing the boy fought back like he did to get away. Very brave of him.

We went to Florida for a race and they had one section of the track blocked off because there was an alligator "around there somewhere" in one of the swamp crossings. So they ran the track around the edge of where they thought it might be.
