I found this forum when looking for info on how take care of newborns. A feral cat had 5 kittens last Saterday on our deck and never came back. I have been raised with cats as a child and I have had my own ever since I was 17 but this is the first time I have ever had to take care of new borns.
I have one cat now, his name is Stevie. He is a small male with big feet that he never grew into, he must have been the runt. What I like so much about him is that he comes running to me like a dog when I call his name. I have never had a cat do that before, at least not all the time.
I had to put down a cat we had for 18 years in 2002 as she wasn't using the litter box anymore and also had some heart and kidney problems, her name was whiskers. We may end up keeping one of these new ones as I'm sure we will become attached to them. I found all the info I needed here to take care of them and I'm sure I'll be back to correspond with more of you.

Welcome to the site Randy, and I'm so glad you found the help you needed concerning the newborn kittens. I wish you and your wife great luck with the little ones. Be sure to check out the Bottle Babies forum that was hosted by the author of Kittens for Dummies who has hand raised a lot of kittens herself. When you go there, at the bottom use the pulldown menu for the "From the:" option and specify "The Beginning" to view all of the posts.

Hi Randy,

WELCOME! Thanks for mentioning that you found information here that helped with the new litter of kittens! I'm so sorry for your loss of Whiskers -- and I wonder, maybe whether she sort of "sent you" the newborns, do you think? :-) Anyway -- it's always a little scary and also fascinating raising tiny ones. Keep them clean, warm, fed and handled a lot, and you'll probably do just fine.

Linda
