I don't know about the hot sauce, the thing with that is, once it's on your tongue it keeps burning for a while. It's not like it burns for a second and then goes away.
My cousin played a joke on me and put hot sauce on a piece of candy, I didn't pay any attention and it got on my lips and tongue and stung for quite a while. (Mean cousin he was!)

The choke chains might be a good idea. They are strong and hold up. I can't really see them actually choking eachother with them
So I think they would be safe.

If the collar is a Lupine brand, they should stand by their guarantee. Just take it back to the store.

Whatever you do, please don't get a chain collar! That could be very dangerous. They could catch their teeth or jaws in it while playing, with nasty consequences.

There's a spray or gel product you can get at some pet stores called Fooey! that is just about the nastiest stuff out there - it's very bitter,
far more so than bitter apple spray. You might want to give that a try.
If you do, though, make sure you wash your hands very thoroughly, or you'll end up tasting it too. I've used it on our garden hose to keep the dogs from chewing on it, and it worked wonderfully - one lick & they never touched it again!

Ack! I didn't even think about that when I mentioned them.
Chain may not be such a good idea afterall. Mom and dads inside dogs wear them with no problem, but they don't play. (this could be why the 2 outside dogs don't wear them)

Here's the link to show what Fooey! looks like.

And it's safe to use on the dog, too, if they chew on themselves, so it shouldn't hurt the skin to wear the collar soaked in it.

Squirtle, chain mail is the first thing that comes to mind after seeing that collar all chewed up!

Another idea might be to just leave the collar off, and get a microchip & an ear tattoo.

Nakita and Dakota already have the microchip. Thanks for the Fooey link I am going to ask today at the pet shop if they have it there, if not I am going to order it online. I can't keep paying $12 a pop for collars for those two wild dogs

The guy at Petsmart that sold me the Bitter Apple for my puppies said that you need to show the dog that it is really bad. As harsh as this sounds, it worked for my puppies: Show your boys the bitter apple bottle and spray just a little tiny bit in their mouths. When you spray the collars, show them that you are spraying them. Whenever I catch any of mine chewing, I just take out the bitter apple bottle, point it at what they are chewing and they run off immediately. They have not yet rechewed what was sprayed.

Good luck Cathi! If this doesn't work, you may need to do some serious behavioral training on these boys (like watch them continuously, catch them in the act, and correct). It reminds me of housebreaking - I couldn't take my eyes off these boys for an instant.

Wow Cathi- some violent puppies ya got there!

Good suggestion by M.O.M about squirting it in their mouths first. I would give the spiked ones a go though.. and I've never had any problems with dogs getting their teeth caught in the choker chains. Hmmm.

More luck coming your way- Luks like you need it.

I sure will try this to see if I can get Dakota to stop destroying the collars
Thanks for everyones help. I'm just about at my wits end over here since our town requires that all dogs have their rabies tag showing at all times.

Oh yeah grasping at straws and any ideas I can come up with
One idea I had comes to mind but not sure if it will work without hurting Kita. When Nemo was in obedience classes I had to put a prong collar on him as he was a very dominant dog and wouldn't listen to me. Well let's say prong collars are "power Steering" for dogs and work well. My thought were to put the prong on Kita but have the prongs facing out instead of in on her neck. She isn't the one that needs correcting so it wouldn't be right to do that to her.

I know that the prongs would make Dakota think again about ripping a collar off of her. One concern I have is that as long as Kita holds her head in an upright postion she wouldn't be pronged by the collar, but if she was to hold her head down then she would get stuck and I don't like that idea. I really don't want Dakota to get stuck either but if the collar is worn prong side out it will. They are designed to pinch and not to stick them when worn correctly. I am open for anymore ideas here. Grasping at straws and lifelines

Okay I think I have the problem solved
I hope anyway. I went to a Tack shop and got a collar that was made with thick leather that is normally used to make saddles. So far, and it has been over 12 hours now, the collar is staying put. Kita looks really nice in this collar too. It was more expensive than any collar I have put on her but if Dakota can't eat this one then it will be worth the $20 plus that I paid for it. Keep your fingers crossed
