" MILBEMAX "

Most of you may remember about 4 weeks ago Sophie had an upset tummy?.

I put it down to me giving her wet food when she was just used to the dry.

Yesterday she was due the second half of her worming pill that the vet gave me, and she has the runs again!!.

It just seems strange how it started after the first half and now again after the second?.

I've been onto their website and found that this is a new form of worming pill, so i've e-mailed them asking if thare are any side effects such as upset tummys, but i'll be mentioning it to my vet when she goes for her second jab next week.

Apart from that Sophie is her normal self, and is eating, drinking and jumping all over Rosie

Any advice appreciated.

Not familiar with that one.

I'd personally reccomend Drontal if you ever need a wormer again. But your vet is the best person to consult on this.

Depending on the type of worm, Drontal is really the best way to go. Spotz is right, your vet would be the one to advise you.Personally, I would stay away from new wormers, unless they are after a new kind of worm.

Thanks Spotz and Hissy.

HISSY: The one tablet does both round worm and tape worm.

I'm waiting for Emma to get back to me as well to see if her surgery has heard of it, but i'll be taking it up with the vet when i go next week still.

The manufacturers website looked ok, but you just don't know?!, and as yet they havent replied.

If i hear anything untoward from Emma i'll let the site know, and my vet!.

I've done a bit of research on the net and Milbemax treats Roundworm, Hookworm, Tapeworm and Heartworm. It comes in tablets for small cats and cats. Is Sophie a small cat? She may have recieved the dose for an average sized cat. If she is 2Kg or under (4.4Lbs) she should have recieved the small cat tablet. One side effect of Praziquantel (an ingredient in Milbemax) is diarrhea so it may be that, as it contains twice the amount of Praziquantel than in Drontal.

Did they give anything else to Sophie other than the worm medicine? Any shots? I am just asking because that is the exact same thing that happened to Dori after her 2nd and 3rd set of shots. With Dori both times as soon as I walked in the door the had diarhea and it lasted for a week
My vet thinks it was the feline leukemia vaccine that did it to her. I am not sure what worm medicine they give her, but it is a yellow colored liquid that they squirt into her mouth. (I know now to pay better attention and ask more questions as to whats what, but back then I never asked, just trusted the vet)

Yes, she may have received the adult half-tablet. She should have had the kitten one as she would be under 2Kg. Whatever happens, it's good that you know not to give it to her again and just stick with the Drontal.

JC had the same reaction right after his second set of shots. He has gotten an extra "allergy" shot ever since when he gets his annual boosters. The worm medicine you mentioned sounds like Flubenol P. I usually mix the dose in 2 tablespoons of water-packed tuna - that way I'm sure he gets all of it.

Emma(vet nurse friend) e-mailed me last night. Her surgery have never heard of it!. They only stick with Panacur and Drontal. She's told me to give her a bit boiled fish which should settle her tummy down.

I am going to mention this to the vet, because although i do trust them they have to know if their clients pets are having side effects from any medication.

TANIA: Thanks for doing your research
. I've made a note of the ingredient so i can show the vet and i'll also give it to Emma so her surgery can be made aware of it.

I rang my sister to tell her and she said she couldn't remember the make but gave her german shepherd a similar worming pill that did several worms in one tablet just like Sophies which caused the dog to be violently sick!.

SQUIRTLE: No it was after the free check up i got when i took Sophie up to get registered at the vet, and she was given the first half of the wormer.

I only give them flu/ent jab now as i've read a lot of bad reports about the leukemia jab.
After talking it through with Emma before i took Sophie she said it's really personal choice, but because Rosie and Sophie are indoor cats they don't really need the leukemia as long as they never come into contact with another cat.

Their always a little quiet after the jabs. As the vet explained it's just like us if we have injections we can feel a bit off colour.
