About the time I registered on this forum, my cat disappeared. He hasn't come back in a long time. He disappeared yesterday (Saturady morning, May 15). I don't understand where he can be and I am very worried. Very worried. I write this thread Sunday night May 16, and he hasn't even left a trace where he is.

He was raised as a indoor cat, but prefers the outdoors more so he is a indoor/outdoor cat. He has already been neutered (yes he is male) and he has just turned 1 (birthday is May 10).

He never leaves our property, and hangs around the house in the back yard going inside and outside occasionaly. I sometimes never see him but hwne I want to see him I call him and he makes a big meow and comes to me.

What do you think happen to him? He is the type of cat that doesn't run away from strangers, even if you are running at him, he will stand his ground. I hope nobody took advantage of that and stole him. The thing is though when he is outside he always is in the backyard, and rarely goes to the front (which I tell him not to). Where do you think he has gone? He is neutered, so he shouldn't be looking for a woman. PLEASE HELP me figure out what to do. What should I do? Where has he gone you think? Please, I can't stand if anything has happened to him.

He could just be wandering, but make sure you check with the local shelter or "cat" groups as well.

A good samaritan might pick him up, thinking he's a stray. If he's friendly, that's not likely, but you never know.

With many of these situations, it seems like the cat eventually turns up, but to be on the safe side, it's always good to share as much information as you can with the local shelter, neighbors, and anyone you know that might come across the cat.

The shelter closest to my place is more than 15-20 miles away (in a different city), can he really possible be so far away?

Also, he had a red collar with two golden bells, would they consider a stray? He has no identification tags though.

Our shelter is also 15 miles away, but we have a few neighbors that will trap stray cats and take them to the shelter. They're "supposed" to release them if they have a collar, but who knows? The only way you know for sure is if you call them or visit them.

I'm not trying to make you nervous, but please don't assume that the cat can't end up at the shelter. There's a set amount of time that a shelter will hold an animal, so it's important that you cover all of the bases and make sure they know you can't find your cat and that they should call you.

Personally, it hasn't been long - but I would be as thorough as possible. I would try to call the various groups that deal with animals (including the shelter) and just let them know you're looking. Also, it seems that with missing people - the sooner you get the word out, the better. I assume the same goes for animals.

Sharing information is always a good thing!

Good luck!

Also, as Hissy's link mentions, you should put out a big plate of food (tuna, or something else smelly) and a litter pan.

If you leave the food overnight you'll probably get raccoons, but during the day might attract your cat back to your house if he's just wandering.

I went to the shelter and there was no luck.
I went to my nearest neighbors, and there was no luck.
What should I do???! He is no where around. He has disappeared without a trace. His name is Rocky, and he is the most freindly loving cat around. I was about to get a new kitten from the shelter for him to have fun with, but now he is gone! Why did this have to happen to me?

I really hope he isn't road kill or worse. Or got in a fight with a bigger cat. I maybe a guy, but I very much feel like crying.

One thing you can do is check the lost and found ads in the classified section of your local paper daily. It's always possible that someone has taken Rocky in and is using the lost and founds to try to locate the owner. You could also put an ad in that section of the paper yourself.

I hope Rocky comes home real soon!

last year our family cat, Ashes who lives on Cape Cod with my mom disappeared. We all thought for certain a fox or some other wild animal got a hold of her, and after about a week she just came home. They have no idea where she was, why she was gone so long but she came back fine, not a scratch on her...so I believe Rocky will come home!

Cobra,

Others have given you good advice on what TO do, now I'm going to offer one point about what NOT to do: do NOT give up. Often, people stop looking for their cats JUST when the cat has begun to feel curious/safe enough to venture from a hiding spot it's found outside. It's a GOOD possibility your Randy is right near home, somewhere that you can't or don't know to look. I don't know about you, but I've had cats who can be sitting in plain sight in a room (well, relatively out in the open) and I'v e missed them; and I've had cats who were EXPERT at finding the tiniest, most out-of-the-way hiding places (and I ONLY have indoor cats!!)

What is the name of that nearest shelter, if you feel comfortable posting it? Did you ask them if they could keep a description or photo of Rocky on file? If not, please GO THERE daily. There is no way for you to know if someone might take Rocky in, keep him for a few days, and then turn him in, or if someone might come across him today or tomorrow; it's VERY important, with most shelters, for you to persist in checking for him. (Shelter staff are very busy, and can't always try to track down every owner, particularly of cats.)

Did Rocky have a tattoo or a microchip? I'm hoping that his collar was a "breakaway" style, so that might not stay on him long enough to serve as identification. (I think that in some cases, a cat outside will get its collar caught and will pull out of the collar, rather than be hanged by it. But if the only identification the cat has is on that collar, well, this puts it in a different sort of danger.)

Sending "reuniting" vibes to you and Rocky.

I totally agree. My Mum's cat was missing for months and about 2 weeks ago he was spotted not far from the house, last Sunday they found him and brought him home. If they had stopped keeping an eye out they would have missed him.
