I like 2000 because it's what I'm used to ME wasn't bad, but it crashed way too much

I'm assuming this is an offshoot from the other thread. To what end I have no idea. There are as many people that like one OS versus another as there are computer users.
Depends on which computer.

Win2KPro on mine.

WinXP on the other 2.

WinME is crap imo. It was a bugpatched 98SE that I had to reload monthly.
Great idea. BAD implementation.

Between me and Heidi we have 4 computers, I could build another, but I would hear about it
We both have Windows XP Pro on our main machines and Windows 2003 server on our upand coming server. I may switch to Linux Mandrake soon, but we'll see. I didn't mind Win2000 but it was limited, 98 was great, ME is just garbage, XP seems to be the best right now... Until Longhorn comes out

Hubby is looking forward to Longhorn.

As for me, I couldn't care less, as long as I can get on the internet

Oh yeah, we have XP.

If I were to go into graphics design I'd get a mac...but they're not very user-friendly..and I only know about PCs....if I'm ever rich enough to waste my money on toys...I'll get a mac for the video editing software

I'm on XP atm...not bad for gaming...otherwise it's a bloated POS, but anyway.

Before I took over poor Blue, he ran FreeBSD I think.

We have our suspicions, Jeff, as you apparently do.

We know, of course, that later M$ operating systems come pre-installed on most new computers, per contractual obligations between the manufacturers and M$, which has been an issue in the ongoing antitrust litigation worldwide, which is not about to end.

A better poll, harking back to the other thread, might be:

-- How many TCS'ers have changed to a newer M$ operating system after being on 98 or 98SE and believe that the change was an improvement worth the $$ and other hassle involved?

That is the question.

Cheers,

Polls are open to all to create. I was curious as to which operating systems the majority of the good folks here are using. If you want to create a poll for the upgrade issue, I'll gladly place my vote. But that is not the goal of this thread. There has been enough controversy.

Upgrading is always for the most part, a nightmare. I do it almost yearly as in reinstalling an OS or what have you. Overall, yes the money is worth it in the long run, but in the very beginning its a pain if your blind on knowing what to do, and being a MS beta tester, you test out the products before they go gold
I had over a year with 98 and XP and they helped me out a lot, especially with Hardware issues. IMHO, XP rocks both on the Graphics side but also on the Sound Editing side. I'm even doing stuff that blows way a few engineers in my neck of the woods.

I'm running Windows 98 SE at home, and not likely to change anytime soon. In my office, my dear dinosaur is running Windows 95, but is about to be replaced, and I'm told the replacement will come with Windows 2000. I, too, don't really care, as long as the d****d thing behaves and lets me do what I wanna do. 98 behaves pretty well, and the guru in the office (we're small, there's only one) chooses 2000 because it's stable-- suits me.

XP Home came on this computer...I miss 98. It was much easier to deal with than this.
