I've heard that catnip does weird things to your cat. I've even heard it makes cats kinda high. Is that true?

It can make people high? I never heard that before...what do they have to do...smoke it? Not that i would ever try it!
I don't understand the allure of catnip to cats because my vet gave me a free cat toy (mouse) filled with catnip for buying a certain amount of Frontline (flea/tick medicine, I highly recommend) for my cats...but none of them want anything to do with it...does it only attract some cats and not others??? Or are my cats "Just saying no"

From what I understand...smoking it.

Catnip High

I wouldn't reccomend trying this, I know I didn't...but I also don't reccomend smoking anyways...nasty habit IMO.

Oh my gosh! Some people will do anything to get a high!
Maybe since my cats want nothing to do with it, I could sell my mouse on the black market!!!
And to think they were just giving it to me for free!!!!! :p

Cute, Spotz! Debby, some cats aren't the least bit phased by catnip, but I've also found that Sierra prefers some types over others. Have you tried different types of catnip?

Hi Debby,

Yup....some cats do not have the proper genes to respond...it's a genetic thing (as well as age related...usually a cat who is a catnip responder won't until reachng the age of sexual maturity). For grins and giggles, you might try some honeysuckle toys instead, known as the "uncatnip", many cats who aren't catnip responders will respond to honeysuckle...in the same way

Alix loves the topic of catnip

As for humans, never heard the bit about smoking it. however it's been used as an herbal tea remedy for mucho years.

Movin' on up!
My three don't respond to dried catnip but, when I have a pot of it growing, they love it. Opie sprawls on the floor, like a blissed out stoner and Rowdy gets wild. Buddy is pretty mellow, anyway and he just staggers around the house.

We buy starter plants, at PetsMart and re-pot them. I use a large, heavy pot, that can't be turned over and they all help themselves.

I used to think that Beau and Felicia didn't like catnip. It may be because I don't give it to them very often. Felicia is playing on some catnip right now. Beau was too but he is now sitting with me. I guess he is tired of it already.

Has anyone used catnip pellets? I saw them advertised, but Petco had never heard of them!

I have, my cats treat them as mini hockey pucks
however some cats do love these, and I find them (though lumpy) great for refillable catnip toys.

I've got catnip bubbles. They're supposed to be the same as regular catnip but I think it's more work for me than entertainment for them. They just sit outside the newspaper perimeter (cause it's really messy stuff) and watch the bubbles form, fly and drop, then look at me like "Ok, now what?"

In fact I think I have a few pictures here somewhere.... hold on...

ok here they are, they are just of Tig though.

Whoa, these were taken like last year.

I'll have to try that! Maybe Gus doesn't want the dried stuff...he's holding out for the good stuff!

I've never tried Rosie on the dry cat nip, i spray her toys with it and she starts licking and kicking them
.

TAMME: I've got the bubbles as well. Rosie just sits there and watches the bubbles drop around her just like Tig. She either can't be bothered to jump after them or she's already spaced out on them
. But your right, it's more work having to blow them, for nothing!!!.
