Um.. I dont think ANYONE here will agree with you. People like you really have no business owning cats.. in fact, I'm not going to say anything else because I'd probably get banned if I did.. so I'll just vote.

Ok, I really shoulden't even do this, but I can't let it go........can you give me and the rest of the board a GOOD, logical, healthy reason to NOT spay and neuter your pets? Thanks!

Please note The Cat Site Forum Rules:

2. Please make sure to spay or neuter your cat. Unless you are a professional breeder and your cat is part of a professional breeding program, please spay/neuter your cats before they reach sexual maturity (at the age of 4-6 months). By spaying and neutering you enhance your cat's quality of life and improve his or her health. You are also proving your love for cats because in acting as a responsible pet owner you are minimizing the problem of cat overpopulation. Please read this article and don't hesitate to ask for more information in the forums.
With 4-5 million companion animals put to death each year in shelters, and countless millions more dying in untended feral colonies, by disease, by animal cruelty, by car, etc. I can find absolutely NO justification for NOT spaying or neutering your cat or dog unless involved in a respectible and responsible purebred breeding program.

Do not impose your morality onto animals who do not share it. Cats do not have the same machismo importance conferred to their reproductive organs that humans, especially males, do.

I love my cats, they are very special and I want everything to ensure they have a wonderful life. Of course I spay/neuter. I had to read your post about three times, I thought perhaps the catnip had got to me and I was hallucinating. Please tell me you are joking. How many poor kitties have you got? Where do you live???

Heidi said it best in her initial post. To not spay and neuter is simply being a irresponsible pet owner and adding to the suffering and misery of many caged animals waiting for good and loving homes.
Not to mention expediting the euthanisia for animals not being adopted out because so many "free" kittens are available.

We ended up getting BooBoo and Tink from my nephews girlfriend. They are sisters from different litters about 8 months apart. After getting Tink I took the momma cat down and got her spayed with her "owners" permission. They just didn't seem to care for some reason. I don't understand the rationale behind that thinking.

I had these 2 spayed as soon as they were old enough. It is part of being responsible parents.

OK. I'm done now.

I wish there was a third option.

I'm somewhere in the middle here. So I refuse to vote at this time.

However generally I lean towards S/N.

All I can say is: Spay or neuter - it saves lives.

Go spend some time volunteering at a Humane Society for a while and you will fully agree with that statement. Look a cat in the eyes that is scheduled to be PTS the next day unless they find a home that day, truly think about their situation, and tell me why you wouldn't spay/neuter your pet.
