I said that after I lost Merlin, I would never allow a cat that deep into my heart....it hurt too bad...it killed me to lose Merlin...but...now Gus (our big orange baby) has been in our lives (Amber and I ) for 5 months...not all that long...but long enough to fall totally in love with him. Amber just adores him...the first thing she says when I get her up every morning is..."Gus???" ....she wants to know where Gus is. And when she finds him, she grabs him and kisses him..they just adore each other.
She calls him Gusser , so that is his new name...I pray nothing happens to him...because getting my heart broken (Merlin) is one thing, but having her heart broken would be way worse.

Awww Debby i know what you mean. Whenever my mum lost a cat, she used to say "no more, it's like losing a member of the family", but she always ended up with another

Although Rosie is only two years old and Sophie 9 weeks, but if anything happend to either of them i know i'd be devastated!!
, so i try not to think about it and just enjoy every day that i have with them otherwise i'd be a basketcase

Gusser is still a baby so you have years yet with him

Debby, I am so glad that Gusser has wormed his way into your hearts. I know how much losing Merlin hurt you but sometimes the best way to honour a lost pet's life is to give love to another.
Congrats!

I second those thoughts!! and how does that saying go ' its better to have loved and lost than never loved at all' - sounds corney but someone knew what they were talking about I think!!

I was pretty upset when my dog died.

I don't care about people on an emotional level nowadays as much, so I think I could deal with Kitty and Robin when the time comes.

I hope they live to be at least 20 though, and we're trying to let them ^^

Debby, when my Nana lost her beautiful Blue Silver Tabby Exotic, Special Effects to a car, she said Right that's it I'm never getting that close to a cat again. I gave her a Red Tabby Mackeral Bicolor Exotic last weekend and she's totally fallen in love with him his names Sapan(Indian for fire), he's such a delight though anyone that meets him falls in love. I know you're still hurting about Merlin, but Gusser(Love that name!) is an excellent companion so it sounds. Hugs!!

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Oh, Debby, I'm so happy you have such a great love for Gusser!
It can be so difficult to allow yourself to love again after such a great loss, and it's just so wonderful that you are opening your heart to this sweet kitty!

I said the same as you Debby, but it never works that way does it. These little furbabes just have a way of worming into your heart and filling it with love. Gusser sounds adorable and he doesn't take the place of Merlin he finds a place you didn't know you had. Can't wait to see his pics.

Debby, I'm so glad Gusser has found a special place in your hearts. I've been wondering how you were making out with him. No new pet can ever "replace" a lost one, but that doesn't mean that you can't grow just as attached - your heart is big enough to "accommodate" any number of pets or people.
