When I came home from work today, I found that Squirt has lost his voice! His meow sounds all croaky and hoarse. The only time this ever happened to him before was when he was about 2 years old and had been lost for 2 weeks. Any thoughts as to the cause or if this is an indication of something serious?

Deb, there could be several reasons that this happened. It could be a throat infection, or some sort of trauma that occurred. It could be a resp. illness or he could have eaten something like a weed that irritated his throat. There are diseases that will cause cats to lose their voices, but he is up on all vaccinations right?

It is probably just a temporary thing, I don't know of any cases where it becomes permanent unless the cat is diagnosed with oral type cancer.

He's the same. Seems completely fine, except for the froggy voice. Out of all you suggested, I tend to think he ate a weed that irritated his throat. He has been noshing on whatever grows in the atrium and has thrown up weeds a couple of times in the past couple of days.

Give him some laxatone in a feeding syringe, it will lubricate his throat on the way down.
