Hi All,
My 13 yr old Maine Coon has been diagnosed w/diabetes 2 mos ago. We are having a terrible time regulating him
, he's currently on 8units bid Humulin N NPH. My former vet (unfortunately I had moved away) is very optimistic about experimental use of Lantus on cats at her clinic, which is also endorsed by Dr Alice Wolf of Texas A&M University. Has anyone had any success with this insulin?

I'm not familiar with the use of it in felines, but I do know it's a fairly new insulin on the market. It might have been on the market for 2 years now...if that. In humans, I haven't heard many bad things & most people have said that it helps regulate their sugars so much better. But that's for humans...so it's only a guessing game if it's the same for felines. Have you search the web for feline use of Lantus?

Sorry I'm not much help at all, but I wish you the best of luck! Please let us know if it works great for your cat if you decide to try it.

Have you been to http://www.sugarcats.net/sites/jmpeerson/ ? There have been many cats that can go off their insulin on a very low carbohydrate diet, nicknamed Catkins diet. And there are many resources on this site so maybe they will have some information about Lantus. It sure works well in humans. Becky
