I have a pregnant long haired tortoise shell cat. Last night she went into labour, but all that she delivered was a weird fleshy mass, about 2" in diametre. She has been calm and comfortable ever since, resting in her box, but I can't figure out what is going on. This doesn't fit the description of anything I've read on cats giving birth. This pregnancy is the first for both myself and my cat. Does anyone have any insight?

Please call your vet and arrange to take this cat in quickly.

I would if I could, but I am at home with three small kids and I can't get out of the house. Do you have any idea of what is going on with my cat?

Honestly, I don't know what it is, I have never encountered something like that. Normal delivery you will see a green colored sac coming out, that contains a kitten. What you described is nothing that I am familiar with, my warning bell just went off is all. I've seen the births of a lot of kittens and never have seen anything like you are describing. At the very least call your vet and ask him what it is and ask him what you should do. He is the expert after all.
