My new sweet girl arrived this morning! When the foster mom delivered her she had pooped in the carrier. She told me she is a nervous type that "doesn't travel well." Since then she has had two small episodes of diarrhea...maybe a tablespoon and one half each time. No visable blood, dark brown, no worms. She hasn't eaten or drank yet, which does not disturb me as Franz did nor eat/drink for almost two days. She is confined to her own room and is sitting in her 2 tier wicker basket, that Franz had no use for. It's partially enclosed so she has a sense of security. As of now, I'm chalking this up to change anxiety. Her skin tugur is fine, so she's so far not dehydrated. The diarrhea episodes happened away from her litter pan. I showed her where it was, let het lay it it, but he is partially blind, remaining eye is cloudy vision, so maybe she could not find it yet. Foster said, no prob with litter pan. Any ideas? Oh she is a year old or just a bit younger, spayed about a week and a half ago.

Barbara what a gem you are for taking in a furbabe with such problems. It could be that she is a bit traumatised with the move etc., but that should settle within 24 hours ??? If it carries on I would take her to the vet for a check up. I would try again to get her to drink some water. What a sweetie she must be.
Will be looking out to see how she is going on.

Barbara -- You can safely give Immodium to cats, but I am unsure of the dose... We usually don't recommend giving it for more than a couple of days, though. Also, there is a bland diet from Hill's called I/D that is very easy on the stomach and intestines. Though I am usually not a huge fan of Hill's, it does really seem to help.

I have also heard of feeding chicken and rice for kitties with upset tummies. Make sure the rice is not instant, though, and the chicken is not seasoned.

Congrats on your new kitty.

Barbara, I wouldn't worry about it yet. The diarrhea is probably just a result of fear - first the trip to her new home, and then the unfamiliar surroundings. Ditto her failure to eat and drink right away. Some pets are simply very sensitive, and cats in particular can be "frozen by fear" for hours or days. Resist the temptation to intercede, i.e., make food, water, and a clean litterbox available, but basically leave her alone until she is calm enough to explore the room she's in. Once she is eating, drinking, and eliminating properly, spend some "unthreatening" time with her in her room, sitting on the floor and talking quietly or reading to her. Don't make eye contact, but if it accidentally occurs, blink slowly to show her you mean her no harm, and let her come to you.

Cilla, Aquarius, JCat...Thank you for the advice and support! I will keep you posted. Right now she is in invisable mode, under the bed! I gave her a few drops of water from my finger earlier. Damn why didn't I think to get some syringes from work! Well hopefully it won't come to that. Franz is sooo funny. She's in my bedroom and the entrance door has glass panes...earlier he was spying on her...with his tail happily raised high and making friendly meows! Quess he's glad for a sister...so far! No more loose BM...unless it's under my bed! Thanks again!

That's certainly a good sign! Hopefully he'll accept her right away.

I wanted to let you know that they have changed Imodium. I believe it now contains asprin which is not safe for cats.

ENGLAND... LAND OF HOPE AND GLORY!
Awwww i hope Maddie feels better soon.

Sophie also had an upset tummy a couple of weeks ago, but that was my fault for mixing in wet food straight away with her dry.

As well as the good advice from people here on the site i also rang the vet who said as long as she was drinking she would settle down, and she did!

I'm sure the new surroundings is all it is and she will settle down eventually
