For the past couple of weeks, Sagwa and Sarobi fight everytime they see each other! They will hiss, rear up, pounce, and then bite and scratch each other. Both of them have actually drawn blood! The strange thing about this is that Sarobi is my meek kitty, but she is the one who usually starts hissing first! Also, they are acting spooky whenever they accidently surprise each other....you know, ears flat, hair raised on back. Its like they are scared of each other. I don't get it!

They have been given a clean bill of health, so I have no idea what is going on.

Has either one of them been to the vet recently? Or has one been sick? My cats got squirrelly with each other after one had been at the vet. If that's the case, there are a ton of threads about what to do. what worked for me was putting a little vanilla extract on both cats, under their chins, at the base of the tail, and on the nape of their necks. That way, everyone smells the same.

I have a neutered Tuxedo male who constantly attacks our Siamese female. She is very tiny and has been declawed and cannot defend herself from his agression. He tried to attack the other cats in the household but was put in his place. It looks to me like he has an inferiority complex and wants to feel superior by attacking the cat who is weaker than he is. Now the vanilla extract is an idea because we took him to the vet who pronounced him in top condition and put him on tranquilizers, which didn't work. Now he is drug free but still agressive.
Yes, he still has his claws. I have two decawed cats and if I had it to do over again after hearing the horror stories would never have had any of them declawed. Thanks all

Sometimes unprovoked aggression is when one of the cats is coming down ill and smells off to the other one. I would take the cat getting attacked to the vet to be sure that nothing is wrong with him, then look at behavior issues if he is cleared of health issues.

Coco, my Siamese does have teeth and gum problems. She is under the care of a vet for that and takes medicine for it. Tux's attacks are unpredictable because sometimes he goes up to her and kisses her. She is terrified of him, and we don't trust him, hence he is banished to the outdoors.

My cat (8 years old) has suddenly started growling & hissing at the 3 year old cat. They have been "best buds" since they were introduced. (Both cats ae neutered). The oldest one was taken to the vet with an abscess on his side a couple of weeks ago. The vet "drained" the abscess, gave me amoxycillin to give to him (which I did, per instructions).
Now, yesterday and today, the older cat is growling & hissing at the younger one again for some unknown reason.
Any suggestions are welcome!!
Thanks,
Marie

Hey Marie...welcome. Was this latest fight after you brought your one cat from the vet?? If so, then it is a normal response. Whenever I have taken one of my cats to the vet..whenever I bring him or her back..the other one GROWLS and attacks it....I think it is because the scent of all the other cats that were at the vet office are now on the one cat that was at the vet and cats are very "scent" based so he/she doesn't "smell" familiar. What I do is grab and towel and wipe the one who was home and use that same towel and wipe it on the one who just went to the vet clinic so that at least there is the scent of the cat who was at home on the other one. They tend to take a couple of days to become back to their loving selves.

Thanks everyone for your suggestions!!
Snigglefritz (the older cat) is the one being aggressive to Snoopy (the younger one). It all started the day hubby went to the hospital for surgery. Hubby is home now & doing fine, thanks.

Snigglefritz DID have an abscess on his side which the vet lanced & drained. Antiobiotics were given (by the vet & she sent some home with us). All of the medication has been given.

Both cats are neutered males & were best friends until just recently. One minute they are OK together (licking each other & so forth) & the next Snigglefritz is growling again.

I did call the vet back & she said we should just wait a couple of weeks to see if things get better. I will let you know what happens as time progresses. In the meantime, I WILL try the vanilla on both cats.

I just wanted to give you all an update. The agression has now taken an odd turn. Sagwa and Sarobi will hiss and swat at each other, but then one will pin the other down (usually Sarobi pinning Sagwa down) and will groom the stuffing out of them! Then, they will fall asleep in each other's arms. Awww....cat hugs!
