I can't take it anymore! My giant 30 pound cat is driving me crazy. A minute after I fill the water dish..he's kicking it over...and he knows it's wrong because he takes off running right after. I thought at first he might be doing it for more food but...he does it even when there's plenty of food! Is he washing his feet in it? I keep the litterbox immaculate...is he mad at me?...ugh! please help me...the floor is soaked...I bought a mat but even that is drenched...it stinks like mildew over there and I'm running out of Febreeze!

You have a 30 pound cat? Is it a big breed, or is the cat obese? If the cat is obese it would be wise for you to make a vet visit and talk to your vet about a proper diet for this cat. If it is big breed cat, then you have a large, athletic breed that probably enjoys kicking over water bowls.

You can use ceramic bowls that are not easy to tip over, or take a large tub and place the water bowl inside the tub so when it does jump in to drink and kick it over then it is containing the water.

The cat just sounds bored to me, or the container you are using is just easy to flip over. You can even use a small bucket just make sure to keep it topped off at all times.

He gets a reaction out of you, so he probably considers it play. Have you tried getting a weighted bowl that he can't tip? They have them for dogs. Or take a heavy pot slightly larger than the water bowl, and put the bowl inside it. A heavy, stainless steel pot or frying pan might also do the trick. I've seen raised wooden stands fitted with stainless steel food bowls - perhaps he wouldn't tip one of them.

Based on experience ;0) you have three options.

1- Put water dish in sink and let kitty drink from there
2- Put water dish in bath tub and let kitty drink from there
3- Purchase a water fountain - that for what ever reason stopped by spiller (maybe the sound?)

Good luck!

You can buy the heavy weighted bowls for dogs at Persmart, I think they are very affordable.

Wow, a 30 lb cat!
Well, we had an issue with that for a while. I switched to a bowl that had a larger base that even I cant knock over if I give it a few pushes.
However mine is still just a kitten and your bigger cat might have a bit more paw push.

Try being inventive and use double sided tape or a suction cup to affix it to the floor.
And ensure that the mildew smell is cleaned up, this might be bugging the cat.

It's kind of funny really, I know it has to be annoying after the first few times of getting everything all wet. Dori is so prissy sometimes she freaks out if her toes get wet

You can buy stickable Velcro for the underside of the bowl and place a twin piece on the mat. Franz is very strong too at 15/16 lbs. When he first got here all he wanted to do was hide under by kitchen sink. So I smartly (I thought) blocked the sink with boxes filled with books and old fat library dictionaries. Ha..he moved him! I told a friend who's moving soon I would lend him out since he is so adept at moving boxes!
