Smoking marajuana in private has been made legal, if you smoke it in a public place e.g. pub, etc. it is still illegal.

It is illegal to drink under the age of 18.

I have a BA(hons) 2/1 in Art and Craft specialising in Textiles. I dont agree you have to get these things when your young. I got my degree at the grand age of 40! The best thing I did and I believe the right time for me. both my sisters got their degrees late - both over 35. I think we had the best of both worlds. My parents could not have afforded university even had we even thought it a possibility when we were younger - I dont come from that type of family. Pretty working class I'm afraid. You left school at 15/16 and got a job! Thats good too. It is so different these days (oh dear do I sound old or what!) When I was younger in the 70's you left a job Friday if you didnt like and started another one on Monday - it was really as easy as that.
My nephew who is now 31 is onto his 2nd degree having taken the 1st one (English) at the age of 19. He says that was too young and he didnt know why he did it even though he came out with a pretty respectable 2/2.

Cilla, you dont see many 16 year olds kicked out of pubs though do you!

Think of a barrister as someone who represents the person in court itself. But the barrister does not 'represent' any one but rather is a 'official' of the court. They are suppose to be independent. Although recently there are firms with 'in house' barristers. Solicitors are your true representatives but they cannot go to court except for certain really minor stuff. The reason for the separation is to keep the barrister independent and serve the interest of justice rather than each party per se. Solicitor will 'advise' the barrister. In a crude generalisation, think of solicitor as the paper work person and the barrister as the talking person in court.

Marijuana possession is not legal, neither is it decriminalised in UK. It is merely reclassfied recently to class C drugs meaning possession is still illegal but if caught the police will most likely just confiscate it. It is still an 'arrestable' offence (Max of 2 years I believe) but most likely they will just give you a warning. I stated 'arrestable' because any crime with a max penalty of 2 years of less requires a warrant before the police can arrest you. Note supplying it on the other hand is a whooole different matter.

I actually meant to say; "Now that you explained it that way". *Sigh*...that's what happens when you have insomnia. I haven't slept in two days. I have too much on my mind.

I wish Marajuana would be decriminalized in more places then the Netherlands. Its pretty harmless. Almost everyone I know does it. I'd rather see them do that then what some of my friends do.

You mean like in Canada? The legislation has not passed yet, but since the government announced their intention to pass it, police stopped charging people with possession.

The barrister also does a lot of paper work. Sometimes a solicitor will write to a barrister for his 'advice' opinion' etc., and the barrister also often sets out the court forms, although in reality the solicitor is allowed to do this also. Most barristers speciailise in a particular area, e.g. family law, planning, crime etc. Barristers, like solicitors can act for the defence or prosecution. If the state sends a barrister a set of papers to prosecute he cannot refuse to do it unless he has a very, very good reason for doing so.

Congratulations on obtaining your BA

My degrees: BA in a self-designed major from Hobart and William Smith Colleges, the major was on "Language Consciousness and Society" and was basically a major in english with a minor in philosophy. 6 years later I went back to school and got my Associates Degree in Nursing, passed my LPN exam while in school then passed my RN boards after graduation. I spent a year on a basic med/surg floor then moved to high risk L&D which is where I spent 12 years and from which I chose to retire from nursing when I left the hospital I was working at, to get married. I wanted to do something totally different.

The BA was good for my writing (poetry) but not for a career. In hindsight, I wish I had made a decision on a career path and gone straight to grad school. Before the decision to go to nursing school and get an associates, I was contemplaing either a masters in comparitive literature or journalism, but decided I wasn't comfortable about either...and going for a masters in creative writing, which I really wanted to do, would still leave me without a job unless I wanted to teach, which I did not want to do.

The Associates in nursing was important to me, and did help, imo, re my development as an RN.

All of the above...the stress of working 12 hour night shift for years on a very busy unit with high acuity patients led me to "relax" via cat shows...so it did, eventually lead both to my DH, and my current career as a small business owner

I have a dipolma in Architecural Drafting and a BA in Architecture and a BA in Construction Management.

I have worked for many Architecture and Building firms over the years both part time while I was studying and full time once I had graduated.

The last company I was at I was there for a little over 12 months but the work I was doing wasnt using my qualifications enough. Even though the directors kept promising me and promising me more advancement nothing seemed to be forthcoming.
So I approached them one day as I had just had enough and they informed me that at this present time there would be no advancement as they just didnt have the work. (Although in the next breath I heard them talking to another of the Architects saying they didnt know how they were going to get all the work done as there was just so much of it!!!)

So I resigned then and there, much to my husbands dismay when I told him an hour later.

I have now started my own business in design & drafting and its going along well, although it has only been 2 months. I will eventually go back into the workforce part time but want to get this business up and running as it will be good when Chris and I decide to start a family.

Thanks for all of your interesting replies everyone!

For a little history, I graduated college without any direction at all. I started in community college going for my general AA transfer degree. I tried to actually do ALL of it in one year but that fell through because of a disorganized idiot professor who "taught" two classes that I was enrolled in over the summer (it was an internet class, he had none of his own material, just linked to professor's material from other colleges, and was off of the continent for the whole time). But anyhow, I was tired of taking classes just to fill slots since I had about all of my required stuff done, so I applied and got into UCF. I was initially living at home and I ran up some CC debt. I moved without hardly a penny to my name and the debt still there. I finally got a job doing what I am doing now (DSL tech support for a outsourcing company which I have had enough of). At least with massive overtime it was enough to buy my car, pay my debt and eventually get me into my house. Now I'm done with college and I'm still there (literally, I'm there now). I can't stomach overtime anymore, so I work my 40 and I'm out. That leaves me with enough money to pay the bills and 'make it'.

My only real prospect now is working for another company doing tech support, Brighthouse Networks. At least the job will be easier, the pay slightly better, better benefits and I won't be doing outsourced work (and dealing with all of those headaches). I need to get a good resume together for it which I plan on doing within the next few days. I just got a few resume and cover letter books from the library to aid me in the process...

I will have a degree in Law by this time next year--woohoo yippee finally. My career goal is as follows: criminal defense to prosecutor to judge.

Right now my career is lacking since I am a single mom and full time student. I dabble in the art of body piercing now (fill in when needed).

I really wish you the best of luck Louse76 in your chosen path. It only looks long in the begining but when you look back - the time has flown past. I would like to do an MA but cant afford it. Part time ones are twice the cost. Full time - you need sponsership or a shed load of money! Still I dont regret it - other things come along.

I have an Associates in Business Management. I worked as a records clerk in a regional jail for a year and a half. Then stopped working until 2003. Now I sell real estate full time with Century 21 and work full time for my parents doing their accounting for their roofing company. So, you can see, there's not a lot of me time. Oh and I'm a full time mom...........

This is a very interesting thread! I have a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from San Jose State University. I found the theories and concepts interesting, but I like the computer aided drafting part a lot better. For a while I did graphic design as a job, but that work has dried up so right now I'm doing QA work (quality assurance). It's so boring, but it pays the bills while I look for work as either an engineer or graphic designer. I briefly started an M.B.A. program, but dropped out because it just didn't feel like it would benefit me at the moment. The longer I go without a real career job, though, the more I'm thinking I should just get my masters.

I have a Ph.D. in Genetics and am a Research Associate in a hematology lab. My career goals don't include having my own lab-once you have your own lab, you stop doing hands-on research and spend all your time writing grants. My goal is to become a Senior Scientist/Project Leader in a large lab, directing a smaller group. That way, I can get some of the responsibility without having to write grants. I'm hoping that this position will turn into something like that, especially considering my boss plans to expand in the near futurw.
