My cat tends to vomit anything new. (He is currently on Eukenuba dry and IAMS canned.) My goal was to switch him to Wellness dry food; I mixed 1/3 of the new food in with his Eukenuba; he still vomited. I changed back his food that evening, and he's been fine for the past three days since my attempt to start the food conversion.

Is there any hope of me ever getting him off of his current food and onto something better with his stomach being so sensitive?

Thank you,

Jenk

I would mix the food back in like you were doing, and see if he doesn't get over vomiting after a time or two eating it....

He's never going to adjust if you don't give him a chance

Just my 2 cents...

Also, is this a food allergy or something else?

When I switched our cats to their current food (Lamb and Rice), I did it REALLY slowly for my sensitive stomach kitty. I started out 1/4 new to 3/4 old for a full week, then slowly increased it. We took over a month to make the transition, and it seemed to go pretty well.

My new vet gave us some interesting info, and I don't know if this pertains to your kitty or not. We thought Trent's tummy was about the corn meal in the foods, but our vet suggested that it could also be chicken. He said a lot of cats are sensitive to chicken, which we never even considered (although it made perfect sense after he told us). That's why we switched to Lamb and Rice - takes care of both issues.
Both kitties really love it and they are doing really well on it.

My older cat vomited every few days from the time I adopted her at 8 years of age- tried lots of different food, hairball diet, avoiding overfeeding, saw 4 vets before the problem was solved.
Also found out she has PKD which was not causing the vomiting.
Basically she was diagnosed with IBD- stopped vomiting on steroid tablets. Put her on raw and Hills ZD (which she didn't like much but ate if she was hungry).
Sh'e had flareups every few months- whenever it starts she brings up any food I give her-which made it hard to work out if it was a food allergy.

What has worked best for her is Royal Canin Sensitive stomach formula and a raw mix which I feed both cats twice daily.
Every cat is different but the Royal Canin Sensible may be worth a try- also switching over slowly.
good Luck

We use Royal Canin sensitive stomach - one kitty is prone to colitis, one kitty is prone to UTIs, and Royal Canin sensitive stomach is something that is working for both.

When it comes to switching, I'd do it REALLY slowly. They're bowls hold about two cups of food, and we would put in like 2 tablespoons mixed into the whole thing when we start, and if that works, we add a little more. If Shelly had blood in his stool, we'd put him on the prednisone and just keep two tablespoons mixed into the two cups and after he was adjusted to that, then we'd start to up it a little bit again. We switch food over a period of at least two weeks, going really slowly and not necessarily increasing the amount every day.

One of our two cats, Ari, would infrequently vomit her food, which was usually Wellness or Innova, both dry and canned.

When we took her to a holistic vet, the vet prescribed acidophilus probiotic capsules and multi-enzymes capsules to help Ari with her digestion. And sure enough, her vomiting stopped.

(On the advice of the vet, we have since switched Ari and her sister Sully over to a raw diet, but we still give Ari the capsules until they're gone, which will likely be in a couple of weeks.)

Simon's vet had us try him on baby food (meat protein only) to see if any particular meat (chicken, turkey, lamb, or veal) disagreed with his stomach; none of them did. His current Eukanuba diet consists of lamb. He has had the chicken version, too, with no problems. So why Wellness is upsetting his tummy, I've no idea. But I will attempt to add a few kibbles at a time to his bowl and see if just a few cause him to vomit.

I too would suggest Royal Canin for senisitive tummies. It worked well with my Katy when she went through a period of upset tummy with no visable causes.

You know this is intresting. I've been feeding my boys Wellness & my Levi has had problems with diarreha. The vet suggested a perscription diet, but I'm wondering if something else would work, but I've always heard that switching foods too often upsets their tummies.
