When is it ok to take kittens out to play

Our kittens are 3 weeks old and getting a little more active... They stay in a comfy box in a closet.... we have taken them out once in awhile, but this seems to upset mom a bit.... so we leave them be...
Is there a "right" time to be able to bring them out... or are all moms different...

Out, means out of their box,... not outside!

I take my kittens out from the day they're born, that's why they're so social. 3 weeks is a good time to start "playing" with them though so they can respond. What kind of kittens are they?

I agree here with Sam, when we were breeding, ours were handled daily from the day they were born, mom eventually gets used to it!
