Okay...NOT that kind of winner, Ed McMahon did not arrive at my front door with that giant check
However, this news is just as good. I'll be returning to school in the fall to finish my BA. I'm a diploma RN, not degreed. Will be attending Pratt Institute, a wonderful and one of the oldest Art/Design colleges in the country. I just received a letter from them stating that I am the recipient of their "Presidential Merit-Based Scholarship"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! $6,000/PER YR. I am thrilled ,to say the least! I'm majoring in Cultural Studies. One of the best things about Pratt is the class size...mostly 12 students or less class size! I'm eventually want my Masters from them in Library Sciences...they have the oldest Library Science program in the country!
I am also wating to hear from Eli Lilly (drug company) about their scholarship (JULY). This is a FULL scholarship for people with bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, or schizoaffective disorder. If anyone here is interested their website is:

www.reintegration.com The 2004 entry is past. But you can apply for the 2005.

A giant burden has been lifted from me....especially since Pratt wants 750.00/credit!

Barbara that is fantastic. Congratulations.

You must have worked extremely hard for this and it is only what you deserve, you must be thrilled. Good Luck with it all.

Congratulations for receiving your scholarship!
You must be so excited! How wonderful that you've chosen to go back to school and it sounds as if you've found a great school to attend! I'm an RN and have recently been exploring various options for getting my masters. I agree that the money involved is definitely a major disadvantage. Hope you're equally as fortunate with other scholarship. btw, That's an interesting career change-from RN to library science!

Thank You all for your kind words!!!
Dawn, more than likely I'll enter Medical Librarianship...so I'm not going that far. Right now I do more Health Education than nursing. Did the real deal in a hospital for 20 yrs...loved it...but the paperwork, stress, and being understaffed killed it for me! Thanks guys

Barbara, 20 years! I didn't care for working in the hopital either and agree completly with your reasons. I now do private duty pediatrics and absolutely love it! Health education sounds very interesting also. So what exactly is medical librarianship? You must still be so excited about your scholarship!

Congratulations, good for you! You must be so excited. So what is this scholarship thing? Is that where they give you money and not loan it?

A medical librarian can work in many different settings: Hospital, most likely a teaching hospital, a university that teaches medicine, pharmaceutical, etc. You need at least a Masters (MLS). Right now I'm thinking medical librarian, but who knows. The field is big!

The scholarship is free money, toward your education only..no loan. This particular scholarship was based on my grades I transferred in with and my required Writing Portfolio, short stories, essays, poetry. Because Pratt is an art school, everyone must submit a portfolio, depending on what program/school you want. Sketches of building plans for architecture, sculpture/paintings for the Art Program etc.
Yes I am still excited..thanks for letting me spill some of my excitment onto all of you!!!!

Lol Kumbulu...that's funny. Don't know what your meds are, but if you are a student or looking to go back to school you should check out the website: www.reintegration.com
Loved the smileys!
