ok first I want to say tomorrow I will try my hardest to get my friend Kim over here with her digital cam...that way I can save my last remaining rool of film for kittens....taking some of her preg but want to wait to develop.

Well mom says the other night she felt some movement when elfi had her belly up against her cheek in bed. Me set up some possible areas for Elfi to have kittens....of course Elfi right now wants the box that my computer came in which is way to big and full of stuff I'm storing over the summer break. She is starting to get milk filling up...but you can't see it only feel it yet. She sleeps a lot now and eats constantly I think...also she keeps trying to sneek out...her belly is huge well for her at least....I'm guessing 4 or 5 kitten max....got a week or 2 left we think.

Luckily mom starts on 1st shift again monday so even if I get this 2nd shift job there will almost always be someone here.

I promise I'll post pics as soon as I can.

I would like to suggest that you get Poe neutered, before he fathers any more kittens.

Good luck with the upcoming litter

Wynter,
Could you possibly TNR (trap, neuter, release) Poe, so he doesn't do this to someone else's cat? Check with the shelters in your area and see if they have low-cost s/n clinics. I've heard some vets will discount for stray/feral animals, if he's not really yours. If he trusts you enough to let you handle him, I really think you owe it to him to get him neutered, so someone else doesn't have to go thru what you're going thru w/Elfi.
Just my $0.02

ok 1 I am not the one who makes those desions in this house as I am not the one paying the bills. 2 The only thing we could do is hand him over to the Human Society and while we have no problem doing that with young kittens (they will find homes) the older cats most of the time don't and we are not going to end his life just because he needs fixed. 3 every stray/ferrel in the area for one reason or the other is male so the only pregnant cats are those like Elfi who have homes but things happened that caused fixing to be delayed. I Think my mom's best friend losing her house to a fire and needing a place to stay(here for 2 months) my mom getting very sick and being off work for 3 months and I almost having to drop out of college to care for her and my best friend going through a divorce and having no place to live so she moved in, my brother and his wife having there first child, these are just a few of the reasons why for the first time since I was 9 that a cat was not fixed in this house before they hit 6 months old.

For my mom fixing a cat is what makes it ours unless we got it when it was just a kitten. The neighbor guy thinks of Poe as his buddy, and we aren't going to make Poe leave the neighborhood just because its the only way we can fix him. The only reason Poe has not entered his home is his wife says 15 cats are enough. There is now another stray in the neighborhood....he's an orange tabby and heavy as all get out that I just saw for the first time today....he immedatly let me pick him up so I'm not sure he might just be a neighbor cats that I just haven't seen before as I just got home from school.

Trust me when I say if it was up to me and I had the money to do so I would fixed the strays as they come around and I can....but I don't have the money...I work all summer just to save up money to live on during the school year so I don't have to work then...and the money rarely lasts till March.

And lastly I wish everyone would stop being so concerned about Poe when it comes to Elfi's pregnancy......He's not the pregnant one.....I want to focus on this wonderful little cat we have who is pregnant and all you care about is the unaltered father....if I wanted to focus on him I would have titled the post Poe needs fixed or something along those lines.

Wynter,
I'm so sorry all of this is happening to you. My goodness that's a lot you've got on your plate! How is your mom doing now? at least well enough to be back to work. And your new neice/nephew?

Honestly I had no idea, and I wasn't trying to be a nag, just trying to help you brainstorm for solutions. I know you're a responsible owner who knows when to take care of your own. I know what you mean about feeling the cat is "yours" once you've vetted them. Your neighbor's wife sounds pretty smart to me - are any/all of their 15 cats fixed? No wonder she said no more - as much as I love 'em I don't know that I could handle that many under one roof!

I'm so glad Elfi's doing well w/her pregnancy so far, and I'm glad you'll be there to look after her. Can't wait to see that belly when your friend gets you her digicam!

Can't wait to see pictures of Elfie. If she is so big and another two weeks to go she will be enormous. (Better watch out for that computer box
) Just as a matter of interest how long after the kittens are weaned do you have to wait for mom cat to be neutered?

First of all...mom cat can't ever be neutered...neutering is only for males.
But as far as having her spayed...I would wait until the kittens are weaned...but I am no expert...just my opinion. It sounds like you are doing everything possible to make Elfie comfy and I understand that it is not your responsibiltiy to have someone else's cat (Poe) fixed. I would maybe send his owner a polite message asking if he would have him fixed so that more females don't get pregnant. In the mean time...this thread IS about your cats soon to be motherhood, and I am so happy you are taking such good care of her!!!
I hope to see pics of the babies soon! I hope you find good homes for them!

Oh. Well in that case, I would try to trap him and have him fixed, even though he isn't your responsibility, just to prevent any more cats from getting pregnant. If you need help doing this, or advice, please contact one of our more experienced feral care mods, like Laurie or Heidi or Hissy.

Good luck with the babies! And don't forget to have her fixed when she is done weaning the babies!

We have done the searchs in the area to find a way that we can have animals fixed for free and still stay in this neighborhood....there is no way in this area....so as far as Poe goes he won't be getting fixed. And as far as other cat owners who don't fixed there females its their fault their female got pregnant. Its not Poes fault we didn't fix Elfi....things happened and it just happened we couldn't fix her soon enough.

I'm confused by this statement. In your signature you state that you provide food and a place for him to stay...so don't you want to provide the best life for him even if he isn't "yours" per say??

An unfixed male cat is prone to many health issues....and exhibiting rather negative behaviors such as fighting and spraying. If it were me...I'd take the cat to get fixed at the nearest low cost clinic.

http://www.plannedpethood.org/Spay-Nueter.htm

It's only $28 to fix a male cat through this program.

I just don't see how allowing him to remain intact is helping anyone...especially Poe.

Poe belongs to all of the neighborhood and the neighborhood has decieded that they are leaving Poe as is unless its no charge to anyone to fix him. We live in a farm town area with the nearest big city which isn't that big being hours away, and in this area there is no way without paying full price that we can let Poe remain a member of this neighborhood and get fixed.

I will say this once more.....THIS POST IS NOT ABOUT POE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You people are being very rude putting the attention on him and its really upsetting me.

If its such a big deal to you send me the money and I'll fix him but otherwise let it go.....cause its not going to change. I will not discuss Poe after this. Here is a picture of Poe...the cat in the background is a neighbors but seeing as the kids were no older than 5 they couldn't tell me how they got her.

Elfi is doing fine....she's been a pain as she wants out so much but she's doing dood still.

Fine.....you tell me the vet...and if they accept credit card...I will pay for Poe to be fixed.

Leave me the contact number for the vet office...I will work this through them...the only thing will be that someone will have to capture Poe for his surgery.

I am not going to discuss Poe anymore on this site......I am removing info about him from my profile and I am asking once again for the absolute final time that you leave me alone about Poe because you are pushing your opinions and views on me and I have asked that it stop. I am getting very tired of the inconsiderate people here. Poe I will say again is the whole neighborhoods...the desicion is NOT mine to make. The neighborhood has choosen to leave him as is and that is their right. While I am an adult in this neighborhood I am still considered a kid because I live with my mom...I have NO say.

Please respect my situation that puts me in a I have no chioce or vioce when it comes to him. Also please respect me enough to DROP IT. If it was up to me he would have been fixed a long wime ago but I do not have a chioce here.

Lastly I would like to say that your inconsiderate and almost mean words about how I should do this is uncalled for. You are not living here you do not know the situation to the piont you know exactly what I am going through with him and trying to get the neighborhood to agree to let him get fixed...even if it means the money all comes out of my pocket. The don't want to fix him...they think he is just fine as he is and I can not change any of this. I have been trying for almost 2 years noone will say its ok. All of us feed him...and pet him and take care of him. So yes they have as much say as we do.
