Movin' on up!
Rowdy has been spending her nights in a crate, since Sunday. Inasmuch as I get to sleep, until the alarm goes off, it has been a success. She doesn't seem to mind being put in there - no fighting or yowling. During the day, all three cats pop in there, for a nap, on their own. I put an old, soft raggedy towel in there.

However, she has moved her t.p. unrolling and shredding activities to midafternoon. Just before I get home, she unrolls and shreds the t.p. on the roller. In addition, she drags one of the spare rolls into the living room and spreads shreds of that around. Then, she lays down in the middle of her mess and waits for me to pass through, on my way to the bedroom, to change clothes.

Needless to say, this has earned her some uncomplimentary epithets. Today though, Bill picked her up and cuddled her. So much for discipline! Its a good thing, that we don't have kids.

Space in our bathroom is limited but I do have a small Rubbermaid box, that will fit behind and under the toilet tank. This will at least protect the spare rolls. I know that I've seen covers for the roller, that keep cats from unrolling the t.p. but allow people to access it easily. I'm going to surf PetsMart and PetCo's websites to see if they have them.

W/ the best cats
Cats just love the shredding sound I think!
Even with a trillion cat toys, outdoor activities, indoor running space, etc. my girls always end up tearing up the t.p in the bathroom, the paper towel in the kitchen, the newspaper in the den. and the cardboard boxes in the basement. Okay, so I spoil them!

Isn't it annoying, you buy all kinds of toys for the little buggers (and I mean that in the nicest way possible) and what do they want to play with...toilet paper.

I finally wound up buying one of those holders that's meant to hold the extra rolls and sat it by the toilet. I just tell people they'll need to use the rolls in the holder. It doesn't work too back unless someone forgets to put the lid back on (namely myself)

I am so glad Dori has bever taken an interest to the toilet paper. her sister though, who a friend of mine has, loves the toilet paper. She unrolls it all the time. I don't think she shreds it, just unrolls all of it onto the floor. I thought it was funny, I guess that's because I don't personally have the problem...yet I should say.

Jamie did that until we started buying scented toilet paper. After about three or four months we switched back to the unscented, but he didn't go back to tearing up the rolls.

It's a covered toilet paper holder with a lid
Thanks for the link but, that's a bit pricier than I want to go, for a toilet paper holder. I think that I've seen those clear plastic "hoods" in pet supply catalogs. Things You Never Knew Existed has one, shaped like a pair of buns. It "farts", when one pulls out the paper. THAT'S a bit much!

P.S. -- Luna kind of started doing that, when she was younger, but I started balancing something like a thick book (a novel, not huge like a phonebook) on top of the roll at night. Everytime she messed with it, the book fell and made a noise and scared her. Since it wasn't a very wide or tall book, it wouldn't hurt her even if it fell on her, I made sure of that.
She left it alone after the first few nights of this.

Thanks Shell. I'm going to check the pet supply catalogs, too. I think the Doctor X catalogs had them pretty cheap. Actually, $20 isn't so bad. Saving the t.p., not to mention the woman-hours spent cleaning up the shreds, would more than make up for the $20.

Don't you just hate cleaning up shredded tp? Right after that old Charmin commercial that showed the 2 cats shredding a roll and sleeping on it, I came home and found 2 of mine sleeping on a shredded roll still in the bathroon, right under the hanger. I knew I shouldn't let them watch tv!

All Rowdy is trying to do is be creative and you are wreaking his art work!

Honestly - the cover sounds like a great idea.

My Shalimar
used to love shredding paper. I found a really simple solution. I turned the paper around. If I kept the roll so that the tissue came out over the top, when she shredded, the roll would unravel and she would have fun.
When I turned the paper around so that it unrolled down the back, when she shredded it, it just kept rolling around and she didn't get any paper. That ruined her fun, but left me with intact toilet paper.
I had to make sure I didn't forget, but I quickly trained myself.

Thank goodness my 2 boys never learned to enjoy tp on the roll. If I leave a roll out loose, someone will rabbit kick the paper to death!

I flipped the roll around - it makes no difference. As a matter of fact, Bill just finished re-rolling what's in there, now. Rowdy is a very smart, very talented cat. She can open cupboards, with just one paw and can empty a wastebasket, without turning it over.

Bill just threatened to "beat her @$$". However, he was chuckling and scratching her ears, as he said it. He is not-so-secretly pleased, at her orneriness. Let that be lesson: NEVER let a cantankerous old fart have access to your kittens.
