Thats lovely

Sadly though there are many many thousands of cats and kittens in Iraq living on the streets in absolutely appaling condition, literally starving to death. Many many of them fall prey to stray dogs on the street and survive on whatever (if anything) they can find.

Yes it is a nice story, but what about the hundreds of servicemen and thousands of civilians who have died/are dying. They are of a greater concern to me.

that is the best thing I have read in a long time ...all I kept thinking was "Leave no one behind" just goes to show how powerful pet therapy is.

I think this story was wonderful and the simple fact is that this cat helped the men of this unit cope with the war and for that I am happy that he was rewarded.

And although this probably isn't a popular though and I mean it as no slur against the men of our military. They made a choice to sign up for the military and when you do you chance being put into action in a war. Whether you agree with the reason for war or not. And the civilians that are there are either Iraqi citizens who have a vested interest in staying put or people who have made the choice for whatever reason to journey over there and help out. These poor animals have no such choice.

And just as a side note, I have both family and friends that are serving in Iraqi currently both as service men and a civilians driving trucks and I am very proud of them for doing so. Am I worried for their safety? Yes, I am. But that doesn't make me anyless happy that this one story has a happy ending, it gives me hope that if things get really bad over there and they are caught in the middle of it that their units or some unit will have the same attitude...no one gets left behind.

I have tears of joy right now. Not only am I happy for the cat, I am happy for the soldiers - they know their friend and companion is safe and happy.
