That's a fascinating article. I didn't know that cat brains were so similiar to human ones. Now if only we could somehow add a neocortex to cats' brains and they could talk - can you tell I read and watch too much sci-fi/fantasy?

I read a fiction book (had to add that) a few years ago, forgot the name, where a scientist worked for many years and was able to make dogs stand upright and walk on 2 legs, talk, think, reason, etc. They dressed in human clothing, and he fitted them with prosthetic hands.

I love them both so I think they're equally intelligent, just in different ways.

I too was struck by the statement that cat's brains are similar to human brains. I think a lot of people assume that because they have small heads/brains, they are stupid. On the contrary, I find cats to be really pretty sharp (and smarter than many humans I know). This applies to dogs too. I think human beings are a bit imperialistic when it comes to animals. We dominate, so we must be smarter, or more apt. However, when you hear stories of dogs rescueing their owners who are having a heart attack, or cats surviving a trip in a plane without proper air, or food and water for days, elephants mourning a death, you have to think. They don't give up as easy as human beings and can be capable of complexities that humans only associate with themselves.
