I went grocery shopping today. 3 boneless skinless chicken breasts..........$19.84!!!!!

Needless to say, I bought the other white meat! Milk, cheese and eggs also spiraled up in cost. The butcher said it is because of the mad cow disease scare.........

I thought I had seen high prices... but that takes the cake! I will never complain again because of the prices here!

That's odd.... actually, the sales of red meat went up in Puerto Rico when the mad cow scare took place in Washington state.

Actually, dairy prices went up and are going to go up farther because of federal regulations that the dairy producers (milk, cheese, etc.) have to pay dairy farmers more for the raw product. While I hate paying over $3 for a gallon of milk, I can accept that reason for the increase. One of my uncles has a dairy farm.

Whoa thats high!

I buy 6lb bags of frozen chicken (from Tyson, they are of good quality breasts, skinless and boneless) for $12.99 from Sam's - cheaper than buying them fresh.

They are very good quality and relatively cheap.

Brandon

Movin' on up!
Fry's (Kroger's) has chicken breasts, for $.88/lb this week. For that price, I'll skin 'em and bone 'em myself!

My freezer is going to get stocked with slabs of pork ribs, too - $1.99/lb. My dad was hinting that he REALLY likes the way that Bill barbecues ribs. We're going to have him and Mom over, on Memorial Day. Even my scrawny, sickly mom packs away Bill's ribs and potato salad.

Woah!!!! That's way too high!
I hardly ever buy beef anymore because it's too expensive. If chicken prices ever get too high where I live, I'll definitely be buying pork more often.

You know why the price of chicken is rising? It is because of the response to the Avian flu. The Canadian government have decided to slaughter all 19 million chicken and turkey.

http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/...?query=chicken

Which means Canada may be importing chicken from the US if there is where you are from, hence prices went up.

As for the beef, I do not think it is mad cow related per se. Since there have not been any widescale slaughter. The two things that might be causing prices to go up for beef are:
1) Demand: Atkins diet. Take a look at this funny article about this couple eating 12 slices of roast beef at a restaurant and then getting ejected because the manager feared there will not be enough beef for the rest of the customers.
http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/West/04/2....ap/index.html
2) Supply: Beef imports from Canada are still banned.

Oh my goodness that's expensive...if chicken prices got that high around here I don't know what I'd eat. Poultry is about all the meat I eat any more.

I live on a dairy farm. This new regulation will hopefully help us dairy farmers out some.
