You know why the price of chicken is rising? It is because of the response to the Avian flu. The Canadian government have decided to slaughter all 19 million chicken and turkey.http://www.globeandmail.com/servlet/...?query=chicken
Which means Canada may be importing chicken from the US if there is where you are from, hence prices went up.
As for the beef, I do not think it is mad cow related per se. Since there have not been any widescale slaughter. The two things that might be causing prices to go up for beef are:
1) Demand: Atkins diet. Take a look at this funny article about this couple eating 12 slices of roast beef at a restaurant and then getting ejected because the manager feared there will not be enough beef for the rest of the customers.http://www.cnn.com/2004/US/West/04/2....ap/index.html
2) Supply: Beef imports from Canada are still banned.http://www.cnn.com/2004/LAW/04/26/ca....ap/index.html
