HELP We obtained Misty from a family that was 'baby sitting for 8 months". ANy way she is our pride and joy now however she has decided that the cat box is in plants...I have placed foil...behind speakers...again foil...She is the only cat here and her litter box is cleaned daily...I even tried changing sand daily. She has refused to use it. What can I do to keep my new house and carpet clean and to get her to use the litter box? HELP

I would get a few different litter boxes and a few different types of litter and see if she doesn't find one more appealing than another.

There's also behavioral techniques, but I'll hand that off to the other experts here, as I've never had to deal with such a problem personally, instinct has always been for the box.

Always the first thing to do is rule out health issues. Once that is ruled out, I would try using organic potting soil in your litter pan. Don't use just plain dirt (bugs) but organic soil. Gradually mix it with clay litter (not clumping) until she is finally using just clay then switch slowly to what you would like her to use. But again, please make sure she is not suffering from a UTI first.

Also give her two boxes, not one

M.A. beat me to it - that's what I was going to suggest. It worked for two of our cats - my husband's brilliant idea.
