Took Franz on his first adventure to the outside world today, since I adopted him, (about 2 months). Packed him up in his carrier, sprayed with Feliway. his favorite toys, and his brush that he is in love with. It was time for a nail clipping, he wont let me do it, so we were off to Petco in the East Village, via subway. He was scared, but that is his personality. Not overly scared, he is never aggressive when frightened, just quiet and still.
The subway ride from Brooklyn to Manhattan went fine, even though his eyes were big as saucers. Not tea cup saucers...FLYING SAUCERS!
Went down to the grooming area in Petco and he was done 1,2,3. However, when I went to pay the 8 bucks, the young woman, told me "He's so sweet and beautiful, forget about it!" I was in shock!!!
Franz was a little more relaxed now, so we headed upstairs to the adoption area, run by Kitty Kind. I am thinking about a younger brother or sister for Franz, so he will get more exercise and companionship, since he lived in a foster home with a lot of cats. Well we caused a scene there. Everyone wanted to pet him. I think the Kitty Kind people were getting a little annoyed, since Franz was causing people to focus on him, not their kitties.
Then the Petco staff surrounded us and wanted some petting time too...lots of oohs and ahhhs!
Eventually, we went to Union Square Park, right outside Petco. The same star treatment. One couple stopped us and asked of they could take a picture of us. We did, but said "no autographs please!
Now we are home...and very tired. Yes, a little annoyed with me, he ran to sit in his litter box, when we came home, but came out 5 minutes later, so I guess he's not that mad! Stardom, it's a hard adjustment! Hopefully I'll have a friend with a digital take a pic of him soon, so I can post it here. I never had a cat who got this much attention...I can't figure it out.
Well, as they say about New York.."If you can make it here, you'll make it anywhere"...my boy has arrived!
