What in the world is this? My cat Max was just meowing his head off last night. When I walked out to see what was wrong, he was standing in the middle of the room meowing with a toy in his mouth! Little wierdo!

Why was he doing that? Was he calling my other cat? Does it have something to do with the toy?

Thanks for any explanation!!

My cats do this all the time. They are either wanting us to throw the toy, or pay attention to the fact that they have the toy. If it does happen to annoy you, ignoring them will work and after awhile they stop meowing when the toy is in their mouth.

Thanks Hissy! I thought maybe it had to do with him showing off his "kill"! It wasn't annoying, just new for him.

Dori does this with her string. It is a long green string that she found months ago (out of all her hundreds of toys its her favorite). She drags it all over the place and meows when she wants to play. When I wake up this toy is on my bed, when I take a shower it's on the bathroom floor waiting when I get out, it sits by the front door when I get home from work..... an on and on. It's really cute though

squirtle, I would be cautious with letting Dori play with string. String when ingested can cause a horrible mess at times and even result in a costly surgery should it become wrapped around an intestine. Only use string when you can supervise the play then either throw it away or put it up till next time.

My mom's cat Pansy loves to do this with socks! especially dirty ones! She will wander around the house with her nasty "kill" in her mouth yowling to her hearts content. Mom's house doesn't have a dryer troll, she has Pansy to blame for the missing socks.

IA. If you need me, just meow..
Luna and Isis will do this at night with soft balls. Luna especially. we call the balls her babies. she will find one and wander around crying with it in her mouth and then we will call to her and she will bring it to us so we can either throw it or "tuck it in" for sleepy time. Usually the first one of the two though. She is a silly kitty and we lover her. Isis rarely does it, when she does, we call her and she drops the ball and comes running for pettings. She is quirky also!

Hissy, don't worry it's not really just a string.
It's more like a thin rope. She can't really eat it. It's really long, probably close to 15 feet long. She bites onto a piece of it and drags it around with her. It's pretty strong so she can't really bite a hole in it. Thanks for looking out for her

Kuce does this alot with a couple of her toys if we don't pay her enough attention. She just wants someone to play with her and to pay her some attention.

The funniest thing I ever saw was one day when I was getting dressed. Princess Alexis came into the bedroom, looked around, jumped up on the bed and stole my bra and ran. Picture this: running after the cat telling her to "give that back to me, I need that"!!!!!!!!!

Spyder does this as well with one of those magic duster thingys.

Sometimes I think he think it's a bird so when he starts making that sound (it's different than his other meows) I know he has it. I alway tell him "Good boy, you got your birdie!!"
He carries that thing all over!!

Willow doesn't meow, period. And I don't think Buffy knows that she can meow with her mouth full, lol! It sure would be neat to hear her though! (meowing with a toy in her mouth, that is)
