Shaedi is still calling as if shes in heat. Would she do that if she had been mated with yesterday by the cat I found her with in the yard? I assumed mating caused a cat to go out of heat. Here's hoping thats the case because of all the issues a pregnancy would cause for her.

Melissa..is there any reason why your cat isn't spayed?? Also, I don't think all matings are successful...so she may still be trying to mate.

Cats usually stay in and exibit signs of heat for at least 3 days even being bred several times.

Why don't you just get her spayed right away then you wouldn't have any problems, also, please don't let her outside if you know she is in heat, you wouldn't want her to get pregnant by some random cat who may have a disease or something.

I think her cat is too young to get spayed. I think she mentioned that she started going into heat really early, and is only 4 months old.

squirtle...cats can be spayed as early as 7 weeks and they can get pregnant as early as 4 months. There is a post on early age spay/neuter under the feral/stray cat section..it's worth reading if you aren't familiar with early age spay/neuter. I definately agree that she should be spayed.

Sorry, I was just remembering what she had posted when she originally had the problem the other day. I thought she said her kitten had some health problems or something and the vet didn't want to spay her so young, because she tried to get her spayed because she started having heat cycles too early. But I am just going by what I remember off her post.... I just wanted to make sure you guys knew she did try to get the kitten spayed and weren't thinking she was being neglectful......

Thanks for that information. If it truly is the case that she was recommended not to spay her kitten for health reasons...then it would make more sense to not let the kitten outside. Pregnancy can be very rough on a kitten who has health issues. I hope everything is ok and I certainly hope she isn't pregnant. I would highly recommend that Shaedi remain an indoor cat until she can safely be spayed.

I agree.

If a cat/kitten is too young/unhealthy to be spayed, then she definately isn't old/well enough to go through a pregnancy and delivery.

She ISN'T an outdoor cat- she is and will remain an indoor only cat. I didn't have her spayed because the Vet refused to do it. She is 4 months old, very tiny from malnutrition from before I rescued her from the dumpster she was living in. The Vet feels she is not able to undergo sugery until her health improves and she gains weight, and everyone in the house is being super careful not to let her outside. Accidents happen- and she scooted out by my nephews feet. I'm not an uninformed nor neglectful pet owner. I realize the importance of spaying and have never had a pet that wasn't.

Melissa, can you afford to take her to the vet's? It might be a good idea just to make sure that she didn't catch anything from her little romp in the great outdoors and perhaps he can give you some insight into her possible pregnancy situation.
