a friend of mine is a vet and told me the other day that all cats have a reflex to lick their mouths when they experience pain, espcially a sharp sudden pain. He told me that few catowners seem to know this so now i'm passing this information out to all catowners.

Take care,

Hmmm Really?? Then I better get both my kitties to the vet. They lick their mouths numerous times during the day.

My cat Midnight, who has passed away, developed glaucoma and total blindness in both eyes toward the end of her life. At times her eyes would cause her to have severe pain. Whenever this happened, Midnight would go into hiding and lay quietly with her eyes closed. I have never heard of cats licking their mouths to show pain before either.

i'm sorry, i should have specified more. It's if you for instance poke a sore area or press or pull on a joint that is aching, the cat will start to lick it's mouth nervously.
