Tammie, I'm sorry to hear about your diagnosis. This must be very hard on you. Have you told your family? Can they give you any support?

About your cats, I wanted to suggest finding a home with all of them first. Have a look around and when you get to talk to landlord's, tell them your situation and tell them that you are willing to part with two of them and something is in the works for that but you would be a lot happier if you didn't have to... Sometimes landlords are willing to let some things slide if you seem to be a sane, caring person. Especially if that landlord gets to see the house you are in now and you can prove that the place DOES NOT stink of cat p!$$.

It's just a thought. Please try it out. Take care, Tamme.

Thanks for the suggestion. However, there is a 2 cat limit in Salt Lake City that I found out about recently and I've been able to get away with it because this is my own home and they are all spayed/neutered and have had their immunizations. Plus I've sort of acted like a Persian rescue (or Sub-rescue!) So I guess I'm kind of pushing it with 3!

but you could still try right? It's not like their dogs.... no offense to anyone here with dogs, you know what I mean.

Someone out there is bound to be understandable, and you'll never know until you try.

Tammie, please don't make any rash decisions as a reaction to your health problems. I've also been experiencing heart problems due to long-term hypothyroidism (bad reaction to the medication I've been on for 20+ years), and will probably have to have major surgery in the next few months. Our house is high and narrow, and thus all stairs. We've looked at ranch homes and ground-floor condos over the past few months, and have decided that they're not for us. I've always hated living on one floor in rental apartments and/or ranch homes, and also the noise, and now really believe that the added stress of not liking those living arrangements outweighs the disadvantages of our current home. I've always been one of those people whose floors are clean enough to eat off of, but a friend recently remarked that we have plenty of plates, so nobody has to eat off the floor. How right she is. If you can't manage the house/yard, can't your husband or kids take on a few more duties? Have you worked out the costs of having a cleaner / gardener, as opposed to renting an apartment? You obviously have to take things easy, but is it possible for your family or somebody else to take up the slack? Can you adjust to the owner to tenant switch? I don't mean this as criticism of your decision, but think that you have to give yourself more time to accept changed circumstances, and work out the best solution.

Oh, I'm sorry you're having problems too. You know what I'm going through then! Thanks for relating! I have hypothyroidism too. Plus diabetes, sleep apnea, gastric reflux, history of stroke, CHF and God knows what I can't think of! Really I'm sick of it. I've been fighting hard, since the diabetes diagnosis, to live healthier but looks like I may have been a little tiny bit too late.

My family lives 2000 miles away and I don't have much contact with them. I'm kind of the "black sheep" in some ways because I don't drink, drug and I have a religious base in my life. Weird huh?
Not to mention, my parents are very old and living in assisted living complex. My husband and I don't live together but he helps as much as he can. Plus he's going to Iraq soon (about a month). Yes... he changed his fickle Arab mind again!

This isn't a rash decission. I've been thinking about it for 2 years anyway. Ever since I had the small stroke. I can get a small apartment for between $379 and $500 a month. It cost me well over $2000 a month just to keep this house up and running. It has some structural problems, among other things. And it is just exhausting me. Not to mention I took a steep pay cut when I started my new job. So... I just want out. Probably would have eventually done it anyway, even without the CHF diagnosis. Just would have taken me a little longer!

All in all, I think this is the best decission I can make right now. Maybe in a year once I get my Med-Tech certification and a big raise, I can buy a small condo. That's what I'd like to do. Right now I just want to simplify and not have to worry about the condition of the house, the utilities, the lawn, the cracked foundation, bad electrical, and the list goes on!

Can you adjust to the owner to tenant switch? I don't mean this as criticism of your decision, but think that you have to give yourself more time to accept changed circumstances, and work out the best solution.[/
I'm sure I can adjust to being a tenant. I don't need much to make me happy. And I can make anything feel like home! I know you don't mean this as a criticism. No worries. Believe me, I've thought of everything you mentioned many times over the last couple of years!

Tammie,
I'm sorry you're having to go through all of this! It sounds like you've put a lot of thought into making such a tough decision, and you're a wise woman to look realistically at what it will take to care for your health. You're in my thoughts, and I hope you find the best possible home(s) for Carmella & Henrietta.

Dear Mzjazz2u,

Yes I admit it, I'm trailer trash. Your Persians might have some social problem. How would they handle it? (Then there is Curzon, my Bengal? Against my better judgement I let out. I really got him ticked at me yesterday. I thought I had a place to put the kittens I was rescuing. Not many of my cats use my office, (i.e. second bedroom, I forgot that he did. Oh well. I had to give him some special attention. He was falling asleep in my arms and still growling. What a tired and cranky cat.)

I tried to PM you with the pictures but couldn't figure out how to do it.

Tammie, I have a friend that lives in Henderson- would that be to far away for you to drive one of your cats? Last time I talked with her she was looking for a companion for her and her grandaughter. She has been on vacation but will be returning by next week- I can contact her and see if she is still looking for a cat? I can also vouch for her as she is one of my best buds.

I don't know if you can send pictures in a PM. I've never heard of it or tried! Trailer trash? I've seen some pretty comfortable trailers!

You're cats look like they have a nice little area to bask in the sun outside there!

Tammie, same here, and I'm so sorry to hear of your troubles. I wish you all the best for whatever decisions you have to make, and I'll keep my fingers crossed for you to be able to find a great new home for Carmella and Henrietta.
