Felix has just eaten a strawberry (stolen from my daughter). Will it do him any harm?

Sorry, you must have thought I was mad asking this, but I don't know if kitties are allowed strawberries. Anyhow he is fine and I think he would have been showing signs of illness by now.

My husband grows strawberries in the garden, and I've seen plenty of cats, including our own, helping themselves to a treat, so I don't think you have to worry about it. JC also managed to steal, and eat, a big piece of strawberry shortcake without any adverse effects.

Meagan I don't know about bananas either. When I studied nutrition for cats fruit was never mentioned. Buttons likes pears, but only a small taste of one. This has never worried me, but for some reason I was concerned about the strawberry, I feel really daft now. But I don't want to take any risks on my furrbabies health. Felix hasn't had any side effects so I am trusting all is well.

Meagan I have just searched on the internet. Someone was asking about fertiliser that is safe to use when there are cats about. Banana and coffee ground was recommended so I presume a little taste of banana cannot be bad.

The only fruit I've ever heard of being dangerous for cats is avocado, but I've forgotten the reason given. Bananas are definitely okay. For some reason, every cat my sister has ever had has loved bananas.

Loving my beautiful baby girl
Sierra has always had an odd passion for strawberries. Every year at this time I bring them home fresh picked from the produce stands. Each time I bring in a new container, she loves all over them!
She rubs her face, sniffs and licks them really enthusiastically! If I don't put them away she rolls everyone of them out all over the floor!
The first time she did this I didn't realize what she had been doing and when I looked at her I was suddenly shocked
because it looked like she had blood all over her face, but I couldn't figure out from where she was bleeding! So there I'm about to rush to the emergency vet when I realized it was just strawberry juice!

Hi JCAT!

Avocado, the edible part is okay. It's the pit that's poisonous. I only know because I feed Franz Avoderm dry. It has avocado oil in it. Franz's coat was always beautiful, but since the Avoderm it is like silk. I might start munching on some myself! :lol3 Oddly enough Franz has shown no interest in real avocados. That's just as well, they are expensive here. By the way avacados are very heart healthy despite what people think. Good for lowering cholestrol...I could eat them every day

Thanks everyone and Dawn that is so cute about Sierra. I won't worry about fruit now. I don't buy avocado because they are expensive here too. Buttons likes a taste of pears.

I heard that grapes are bad for cats, just to add another fruit to the list, lol

As for strawberries, its good to know it won't kill them. Maybe I'll offer Buffy and Willow a piece of one, and see if either one takes a liking to it...
