Have you ever considered the question, What if my Cat had a Drivers License?

I got a shock while renewing mine last year, when I found out my state DMV would, in fact, actually issue one to a qualifying CAT.
---------------------------------
My Cat, Pounce, travels with me on the truck, all over the country. (Lots of Pics available on our website).

She does like to DRIVE the truck on occasion (she thinks she owns it, after all). Can actually hold it straighter than I can, sometimes. A bit hard to work the pedals, though.....and those claws are rough on a padded steering wheel.

When renewing my license last year, I asked the lady at DMV about getting a Cat licensed to drive. She told me, just as straight as could be, "If she can pass the driving and written tests, we'll issue her a license."

"Really?" I said, quite intrigued by this.

"Yes," she went on, "The law specifies an applicant must be male or female, with a name, and able to pass the tests. It does NOT specify species."

Interesting to know it COULD be done.....though I have yet to get Pounce to put the first pawprint on the written test. (She sees what daddy goes through out here, and therefore knows better!)

A co-driver sure would be handy at times. I can just see it now: I'd set the cruise control, leave her at the wheel, and go to bed. Simple.

But I can also see, just as clearly, partially awaking a while later. The truck is still cruising along, and the Cat is snuggled alongside me in the sleeper, as usual. As I'm drifting off again, warm and contented, a little thought suddenly paralyzes my soul......

"If I'm laying here, and so is the Cat.....WHO IS DRIVING???"

I suggest you get a HARD steering wheel before you do......the claws really are rough on the padding.

Of course, the gouges initiated by Pounce, did provide the basis for me to do some careful trimming, to make the wheel better contoured for my fingers. And those contours have proven "paw friendly", too - she's a lot less apt now to sinking her claws into the padding.

Oh My Clemmie! Hey its me

This is funny, I can just see it, along with the look on your face once you realise who is driving when Pounce is snuggled up to you!

Ummm... well, she misses by a bit in human years...but in CAT years, now... she'd be what? about 30?

Hmmmm......that is an interesting question.

I've got her birthdate pegged as around the first week of August in 1999 - so, what does that convert to?

Well, the formula that seems to be most widely accepted -- as far as any formula is any use! -- is the following

Year 1= 16 years (in some versions 15)
Year 2= 8 years (in some versions 9)
... at any rate, the first two years = 24
Thereafter, roughly 4 to 1.

So August 99 - July 01 = 24
August 01 - July 03 = 8
August 03 - April 04 = 3 (approx)

So seems as if Pounce is about 35 -- definitely old enough to be trusted behind the wheel -- if anyone is! (And, incidentally, exactly the same age as my Suzy.)

OK - well, if she's 35, then that would certainly explain her recent trends toward what appear to me to be "middle age laziness".
