Why did you give your kittie that name?

When I was growing up we used to have many cats and they were all named after alcoholic drinks.
This didnt start on purpose it was just the fact that my mother had always wanted a black & white cat to be named Scotch - with Scotch came a ginger cat - who was named Brandy.

When Brandy passed away my parents got a new kitten and it was then that that alcoholic names had to continue - this was a fluffy white & black cat whom we name tequila.... (I named this cat as Tequila makes me go quite wierd - and this cat certainly was wierd!!!)

so then when my husband and I decided to get a kitten we found it only fitting to carry on the tradition of their deceased cousins so to speak....

I really couldnt stand the thought of standing at the front door yelling out 'bourbon' or 'beer' or 'gin'

so Tipsy was born.......

That is SO true! I had to laugh about your remark of calling them from the front door... Makes you stop and think before giving them certain names

I almost forgot to add something else...when you go to the Vet, you could be embarrassed.
My dog, Rebecca had puppies 10 years ago, and I gave one of the puppies to my parents. I told them they had to keep his name: Ted E. Bear. It just fit him, he looked like a real teddy bear. When they took him to a specialist a few weeks ago, the nurse yelled his name out and my Mom said she wanted to crawl under her chair.

Kabota because he was rescued in an old barn full of tractors

Bailey because as a kitten he was as entertaining as a circus

Kahuna- because he is the one cat that adopts all the orphans that come here- being the Special K that he is

Tazz- because she is a devil in disguise

Squirrel because she loves to run up the walnut tree, hit a walnut, run down and pick up the shell and bring it in the house as a trophy

Cyclone because his first day of captivity the room he stayed in looked like a Cyclone had hit it

Cleo- short for Cleopatrick because he is a regal Manx cat

Winkin-Blinkin and Noddy- because they are triplets and go everywhere together getting into all sorts of trouble.

Mystery- because she lives for the most part under our house only coming out at night to feed

Kitty Mom I love the name Mr. BoJangles and also Black Jack. We would never be stuck for a name would we, there are so many. I love to read the reasons why the kitties were called their names.

Hissy your Kahuna sounds so loveable. I know they all are but he does sound special.
I love the name Squirrel too. When I was studying psychology there was a debate of who was the most intelligent animal. It was a close between the cat and the squirrel. The cat won.

My cats are names after the Winnie the Pooh show. Kanga almost got names 'Rabbit'.

I really like it when animals are given 'human' names. Like a cat I sponsored at the spca a couple of weeks ago, his name is William http://www.spca.bc.ca/victoria/cats/william12799.jpg
I don't think I told you guys about him did I? I think I'll start a new thread so everyone can know. I love him so much.

Jamie is a classic "tuxedo cat", which reminded us both of "James Bond" and the "Home, James" said to the family retainer (butler/chaufffeur) dressed in a black suit and white shirt in old films. So we dubbed him "James Cat", which was obviously too formal for a rambunctious kitten, and thus was shortened to "Jamie" or "Jamie Cat".

Hi Cilla! Yes, there are so many really neat names! I have another feral peach colored cat that's been coming to eat at night. I saw him/her last night up close, but couldn't tell if it was male or female yet. Very large and has scars on it's face, so I'm guessing it's male. He's quite thin, can see all his ribs and hips bones protruding. I have been feeding him for a few days now and keep moving the dish closer to the front door. Now he comes at night up to my door.
I guess I'll have to come up with a name pretty soon. I've never trapped any of my ferals, just feed them and gradually get them used to seeing me, and then work my way to touching them. By then, they're ready to bring inside. Then I crate them and haul them off to the vet before I bring them inside.
Anyone got any ideas for this cat's name???? He's a peach colored tiger with short hair. (At least I think it's a he, and probably 5 to 8 years old I'm guessing).

Hi Kitty Mom.
Danielle picked her name for Socks by having a poll on TCS. I thought that was really good. You could ask their reasons for picking the name too. It would give you ideas anyway. Please let me know if you decide to do this. He sounds a gorgeous color. You seem to work very hard with those poor homeless cats. We don't have too many right near where I live. There is a huge ginger Tom which I am feeding and the same as you I wouldn't like to trap him, I am trying to gain his trust first. He looks a bit knotted up and scarred. I haven't got him right to the front door yet. His cheeks are puffed out so I am guessing he is a Tom and has been out for quite some time. Your little friend sounds in a worse way. Good luck with him Kitty Mom.

Hi Cilla!
Yes, that sounds like a really fun thing to do, maybe I will do that!
When I get a photo of him/her, I'll post it and have a poll. It might be a while, till I can do that, though.
I'm glad you're taking care of that little guy! Sounds pretty. This guy is a very different color, I've never seen one like this before, but the poor thing is awfully thin and his cheeks are puffy too.

Clyde - when I adopted him, he had previously lived with another lady who had adopted him, and she had a dog named "Bonnie". So "Clyde" it was for "Bonnie & Clyde".

Little Bit - when I got her on Dec 31, she was so short and compact that I changed her name from "Lexi" to "Little Bit" since it seemed so appropriate for her. However, 10 weeks later at the vet, she had gone from 7lbs 13oz to 10lbs 3ozs, and I wondered about changing her name to "Lotta Bit"!!! Ha!!!

They are both now on Dr. Fosters/Smith diet maintenance dry food, with occasional feedings of wet food (about once a week). I have also cut the frequency down to one main feeding per day, with a little snack in the evening.

Franz is named after Franz Liszt, the Hungarian composer and pianist who invented the tone poem. When I first saw his picture on Petfinder.com he reminded me of a baby grand piano. He's black and white and is a 15 pound Maine Coon. As it happens he loves music, Beethoven, Handle and especially Franz Liszt! He even has little, well not so little white "gloves" so he's always ready for a formal event. He is GRAND to me!

Fuzz as in peach fuzz (or Fuzzy) could work for female too
Creamsicle
Sorbet as in peach sorbet Male or Female
Georgia as in Georgia Peach (female)
Salinger-only cause I had an orange tiger, years ago
Archie cause he's a redhead
[/center]Larry the redhead from the Three Stooges

Hi, a quick history of my cats names,Kisses gave my daughter a kiss when she first picked her up, hence... Hootie looked like a baby snow owl chick to us, Tigger, looks like a tigger, orangey swirly striped one though, Bonesie was so skinny, now he's a nice healthy weight, and Inky is black. It's fun to come up with names for our little pet family isn't it? hootiecat
