95% of cat owners admit they talk to their cats.

A cat can be either right-pawed or left-pawed.

A cat can jump as much as seven times its height.

A cat cannot see directly under its nose. This is why the cat cannot seem to find tidbits on the floor.

A cat has 230 bones in its body. A human only has 206 bones.

A cat has four rows of whiskers.

A cat in a hurry can sprint at about thirty-one miles per hour.

A cat sees about six times better than a human at night because of the tapetum lucidum , a layer of extra reflecting cells which absorb light.

A cat uses its whiskers to determine if a space is too small to squeeze through. The whiskers act as feelers or antennae, helping the animal to judge the precise width of any passage.

A cat will almost never meow at another cat. Cats use this sound for humans.

A cat will never break a sweat because it has no sweat glands.

A cat will spend nearly 30% of its life grooming itself.

Adult cats with no health problems are in deep sleep 15 percent of their lives. They are in light sleep 50 percent of the time.

A cat's brain is more similar to a human's brain than that of a dog.

A cat's hearing rates as one of the top in the animal kingdom. Cats can hear sounds as high-pitched as 65 kHz; a human's hearing stops at just 20 kHz.

A cat's heart beats at 110 to 140 beats per minute, twice as fast as a human heart.

Ailurophobia is the fear of cats. Julius Caesar, Henry II, Charles XI, and Napoleon all suffered from this and would nearly faint in the presence of a cat.

Cats, not dogs, are the most common pets in America. There are approximately 66 million cats to 58 million dogs, with Parakeets a distant third at 14 million.

My ex's Grandmother is terrified of cats. I didn't know there was a name for this "phobia". She had one of her family's cats jump on her and attack her face as a kid....ever since then she's been afraid! She thinks cats are cute though, and she likes cat pictures, but doesn't trust them at all! She's even tried to get over this fear. A feral jumped on her car when we with with her once and we had to wait until the cat was off her car and a certain distance away before she would let us open the door!

Theres a lot of people who don't trust them?. I heard two women talking on my train a few weeks ago about cats and one of them said "I think their sly!".

There's a phobia name for almost everything! I should know, I had to do a phobia assignment in medical terminology last semester.
The funniest one we had I think is the fear of a Mother In Law which is called Pentheraphobia.
Anyone have it?

Most of those facts I never knew about! Thanks for sharing!

Hey, those are some pretty interesting facts. Well I do admit that I talk to my kitties all the time. And Koa sure can jump on our highest part of our concrete wall surrounding the backyard. That scares me! I just don't want him running away.

I guess you could say that I have it, but with very good reason.

Thanks for sharing those facts. I wonder how many of the 5% who don't admit talking to their cats really do talk to them.

Found it interesting that cats are the most popular pets in America. The same is true in the UK, they have overtaken the dogs number one spot.
Not that I don't like dogs because I do.

Yeah, I thought that dogs would be more popular too..... but times have changed. My whole family are dog lovers, and well only my Aunt and I own cats. Someday I'll own a dog.
