Samwise and Miss Kitty have decided that they are buddies now, and they share a window perch, chirping at the seagulls gliding over the beach.

We were not secretly devising a plan to sneak out and eat the seagulls, honest! Don't you believe us?

Cute, Squirtle! That seems to be exactly what they are thinking.

We've got them fooled, though. If you look at the photo closely you can see some storm shutters outside of the window. We hope that will trap them inside even should they break out of the window screen, but we have been fooled before when we thought a hole was too small for a cat to get through it.

Our house on the beach is up on pilings, so it is a good-sized drop to the ground should they escape. We don't think that would bother Samwise at all, but Miss Kitty would probably think twice before making that leap.

Their photo on the window perch shows a good contrast in the size of these dear kitties. Miss Kitty is five years old, and Samwise is all of almost 15 months. Turkish Van cats take from three to five years to be fully grown, so Samwise has a way to go. He has only been with us less than a month, and he has already proven one adage which applies to Turkish Vans: "Within a matter of days after coming to a new home they will have parked themselves on every horizontal surface in every room."

All the best,
