Fighting for ferals in NW NJ!
If you're working with ferals and strays - especially if you're trapping and you may be trapping skunks and raccoons (or other wildlife) in addition to the cats, you might want to consider getting a rabies vaccination! I don't know why we never thought of it before, but our vet just asked us about it, and it seems like pretty good advice to me. There was only one reported case of rabies contracted by a person in a nearby county last year (I don't know about ours!), and it was a man cleaning his attick and he awoke nesting bats.... but given that the disease is fatal, this is certainly something that anyone working with ferals & strays really ought to consider.

Good advice. I was bit by a feral kitten one time and had to quarantine him for a few weeks to make sure he didn't have it. Needless to say I socialized him in the process so all worked out for all parties. Will have to consider this seriously!

Do most vets get this vaccination? Did he/she mention if it would be a yearly shot or something given every 3 years (like animals)? With the amount of ferals I work with this really is a good idea. I try not to get close enough for them to bite but you never know.
