I brought "Bobbi" home Friday, and so far she's doing really well! They warned me she was a nervous nelly in the car, and true to form, she mewed the whole way home, but as soon as she was inside and on the ground she went quiet. As expected she went straight for the darkest corner she could find, where she stayed for the rest of the night.

She was none too happy with me when I came in Sat morning to give her her pain medication (she had a lower canine tooth pulled Thurs), so I've since taken to mixing that with her canned food as well as the clindamycin, to avoid stressing her any further. She absolutely LOOOOOVES canned food, any flavor. Perhaps this was because her teeth were hurting? She hasn't eaten much dry food, but I"ve been giving her lots of canned to make sure she gets her medicine.

I've been visiting with her every two hours or so when I'm home, and she will let me approach her and pet, and will give me nuzzles and purr LOUDLY!
Last night I left the spare bedroom door open and she ventured out and into my bedroom (under the bed) until I went in to go to sleep. This morning I found her on top of my kitchen cupboards, so I got up and petted her to reassure her I wasn't going to pull her down (that was how she was recovered by the shelter last time, they had to climb a ladder and pull her down) She gave me more purrs and nuzzles, and I left her food in the kitchen for her.

I can't wait to get home to visit w/her tonight!! She may cure me of my workaholic tendencies yet! I left yesterday after exactly eight hours and didn't even feel bad - I had my baby to get home to!!!!

Just wanted to brag on my baby for a bit, and I knew y'all here at TCS would understand!

Fantastic - so pleased that it is going well and that little Bobbi is settling in. Just got through reading your other thread about the choice between Bobbi and the younger cat. Really pleased you took her on - she will come round sooner than later I think.
Plus it gets you out of work earlier!

I hope it continues to go well for both of you. It was so good of you to take on the older girl. Kittens are cute, and can be lots of fun, but there is a lot ot be said for a mellow older kitty. Please continue to keep us posted. We love hearing the happy stories!

I'm so very happy to hear Bobbi is doing well.
I've been waiting to hear about her. I thought it was so wonderful of you to give her a chance. I feel so bad for the older kitties that don't get adopted. I hope the two of you share many happy days ahead!

Thanks all for your good wishes! Bella, as I've renamed her, is doing fine, out and about exploring the house (not outdoors) and loves to be petted and loved on, though she doesn't like to be held yet (I think she still suspects I'll try to put her back in that awful carrier and cart her off to the nasty vet's office) When I came home last evening she was asleep on my bed and we talked and played for a while before she followed me downstairs for dinner. She absolutely love, love, loooves canned food, especially anything with tuna.
I can almost lead her by the nose with it

She did scare me a bit this morning though. I heard her moving about in the kitchen, climbing down off the cabinets, but I didn't see her go to her dish to eat, and when I entered the kitchen she had disappeared. Now there aren't too many places for her to go in my tiny kitchen, except maybe into the cupboards but she wasn't in there. Then I reached my hand behind the microwave, which is in the corner at a 45deg angle, and was greeted by fur and a tiny mew. So it appears I may need to rearrange my countertop a bit.

Just a bit about the name change - as I was leaving the shelter with her mewing nervously in her carrier, someone said she sounded like a bell ringing. Indeed, she has more of a squeak than a meow, but it suits her tiny body quite well. And since she's such a pretty girl, I thought Bella would be totally appropriate. And so far she seems to approve, she answers to it as much as any cat I've known will answer to their name.

Glad she's settling in well- had been looking for updates
there's something really special about adopting an older cat.
I think mine was very happy to be in a home of her own again
best wishes
Catherine
