Pagans & Wiccans

Thread Starter
Last month, I gave up being pagan. I was pagan ever since I was 10. Everything was going smoothly, but my parents found out, and freaked on me. Also, after some rituals, alot of 'weird' happenings occurred. I'm now Christian again, and a bit affraid to think about getting into wicca anymore. Is anybody pagan here, and have any idea what was happening? And if you're not pagan, give me some reasons that you would or wouldn't be pagan. I'm pretty sure something wrong happened, so I need some opinions from pagans and people that know about that religion. Thanks guys, please don't get angry at pagans or anything, I know what I was doing, but accidents happen, do they not?

No one can tell you what spiritual path you should follow, that is a personal choice that only you can make. Personally, I don't think there should be arguments for and against following a "religion"...to everyone with a pure heart they believe that their path is the best path, the one of truth - whether they are Christian, Hindu, Muslim, Jewish, Buddhist or pagan.

I am also pagan, and I don't mean to be presumptuous, but it sounds like you were dabbling in the grey or black areas? Things can and most definitely do go wrong in those areas, those are forces you can't control. White magick I've not heard of those kinds of mishaps. I will say, I'm not Wiccan and I'm not familiar with their rituals. But my understanding of it makes me quite confused as to what you were working with?

I have never ever tried to do black magick. I started to do rituals with my friend, who is christian, ever since then my spells have backfired.

Well, then that pretty much answers the question... She (and you, it kind of sounds like...) is going against her faith, her heart is not pure apparently in either spirituality so none of the rituals/spells will go as you want. Honestly, if you are wavering this much between paganism and Christianity, I would suggest not doing any spells for a while. Even if you decide that paganism is the right path for you, with such indecision right now you aren't centered within yourself enough to get clarity. Just like you shouldn't take Communion at Church without a pure heart and a pure faith, rituals and spells in Wicca should be taken equally as seriously.

An' ye harm none, do as ye will.
An' ever mind the Rule of Three:
What ye send out comes back to thee.
Follow this with mind and heart,
An' merry ye meet, an' merry ye part.

It really is a very personal decision. Maybe you need to take a few weeks (or months, or years, whatever you need), and not worry about trying to categorize yourself. You can be a moral, spiritual, and even God-respecting person without attaching to one religion or another. Just concentrate on trying to be a good person and on what YOU believe is the right way to live, and maybe this will lead you in the right place.

Besides, whatever decision you make is not irreversible. Best of luck.

If you are indeed 12 years old, you shouldn't be dabbling in this unless you have an older mentor to guide you. Going down this path the right way can be rewarding, but taking detours either through curiousity or something else might just leave you in a world of hurt. I would be very cautious about what you are doing, and just give yourself time to be a child and grow up and into other areas later in your life.

I agree with everyone else that yours is a path that YOU must decide, but to be honest with, I don't think practicing your craft with a christian is what caused your problems...

Karma...

It's a bad thing not to have on your side, and if by chance you did something out of the norm (see Heidis post above), then that would be the cause...

Remeber, everything you do comes back to you 3 fold. Good or ill..

I agree with Hissy here. What you really need to do is worry about other things. It can be rewarding, but you should have some adult mentor. If you really like that and want to go with it, you have all the time in the world to decide.

You're right Ken. It isn't the "Christian" part that would cause problems, I was trying to point to the "With Perfect Love and Perfect Trust" idea when I said that. (Sorry, I was going on about 4 hours of sleep yesterday....) There are a lot of spiritual tenants that blend well together, but IMO Christianity and paganism don't do it. Christianity outright condemns all forms of witchcraft, so by default if you are Christian you can't be something that is condemned by what you believe. Does that make sense?

Purrfect sense!!

I can really understand why your parents got so upset. And if you're only 12 years old right now, there's no reason to rush into anything. I just wanted to suggest that you wait a few years so that you will be better able to make an informed decision about which religious path you should follow.

I strongly agree with the others. And, I really question how you can be pagan one day and then christian the next. Religion, and the deeply held beliefs that go with each type of religion, is not just a label that you can change at will. changing religion is not like changing your clothes.

I advise keeping your mind and heart open to all you experience and follow the religion that makes your heart sing.

I found a long time ago that the more religions you study the more confused you get. At 14 we are still developing physically and mentally. Give yourself plenty of space, you will know which path to follow eventually. I agree that true religion, which ever it is, should be based on love, the rest will follow at a later stage. Be patient with yourself let it go for a while. Good luck.

I am a christian and a mother . I think the parents got upset b/c most christian don't understand the faith of pagan or wiccan and also afraid to look into that out of fear . I think the parents were just plain afraid that their child got into something really bad . Most christian don't know that pagan and wiccan are really very peaceful and not mean or evil spirit .

there is no black or white magick , there is only the intent in the persons heart , magick , spells etc are basically paryers with props , a way to focus your thoughts and energy to a need (need being health well wish etc ) I think you got spooked because of peoples perceptions . Even a Christian can pray for a not so nice thing to happen. its in the heart of the person not the color of the Magick.

Do you guys actually believe in this stuff? I mean spells, and magic, and whatever else? Im not being rude or putting down your beliefs, just a question. Is there any proof or anything of it being real? Also, like what sort of stuff would you "cast a spell" for?

Brandon

Do Christians really believe in the power of prayer? It's basically the same thing. It's calling on a higher power, higher energy. Christians call it miracles and prayers answered, we call it spells and magick. Going through certain steps to focus energy to a cause. Is there "proof" that prayers work? The same "proof" is used with spells. You either believe it or you don't.

There are all kinds of spells....anything you can think of really. At least with Wicca and a general rule of thumb I've always gone by is that it has to be for the good, meaning you aren't supposed to ask for revenge reasons or selfish ends.

It's all about your beliefs, my dear friend. Religion is the most intangible thing on earth. It all depends on what you believe in. Nothing more.

I don't know if Christians actually believe in prayer. So its all just one big belief thing? Just like the next religion, with no more proof of anything? Thats all I wanted to know.

Thanks,
Brandon

Brandon, I'm sure a lot of people could give anecdotes of when prayers or spells have worked. But that's all they are - anecdotes. There are always other explanations that can be used for the outcomes besides any spiritual intervention.

Paganism or Wicca is a belief system, another religion just like Christianity, Islam, Judeism, Hindu, etc. It's still a matter of faith, per se.

Heidi I think that is exactly what it is Faith. And there are many kinds of faith, when I catch my No. 93 bus each morning I do not keep asking if it is the 93 bus I believe it is, but I must admit that one day it turned out to be a No 137 and the driver had forgotten to change the number.

But I think faith is incredible, they say it helps in healing, if you believe you are going to get better you are on your way, even with cancer people have lasted a lot longer than expected because of their attitude to fighting it.

I believe in faith, miracles etc. but I think it comes from within and use it and it grows. Whatever faith you may be. And if it is based on love you are on the right track. (I am a romantic aren't I)

I am pagan...I don't have a specific path....YET. I am going to spend this summer doing more research into the different direction that I can go.

I think the thing that ticks me off the most if christans(I say them because 99 out of 100 times its them kaking such comments to me) will tell you they are not going to judge you because of your religion, they are not going to hold it against you, they admit that they do not understand your religion. BUT when they time comes they tell you that you are eighther evil or surrounded by evil because of your beliefs. Tell you that you do not know The maker, or God or whatever you choose to call it, You are a sinner because you do not believe in the bible and aviod you at all costs.

OK you don't understand my beliefs.....I have tried to explain them....but you would not listen....I have tried to understand your beliefs and even sat listening for hours on end multiple times. I thought that they believed let the first without sin cast the first stone....or its something like that. and don't they all believe we are all sinners so they can't/shouldn't cast the first stone...YET they do.

YES YES there is some personal issues in my life dealing with this....I even spent a week trying to believe in the bible and all that ....I have no clue why must have been all the stress that let what she did/said effect me so.

I have to say, I have run into those attitudes a lot in this world, but I have been so happy with the tolerance here on this site. Even though it is a majority Christian, I haven't been condemned once here. Maybe cat people are just more open minded....or maybe it's because we all have little gods and goddesses living in our homes!

I like that its cute!!!

I go to a Christian college so I get additudes all the time...but I also have a large group of friends some of them pagan who except me for me not for my beliefs.

Now my half rant comment earlier is about a person I thought was a friend who was going to be my roommate next year but decided that because of my beliefs I am surrounded by evil things...but I'm not evil she claimed...and she could not live in that type of enviroment....ok if there is so much evil around me who could you be my friend and around me...and do you have any idea how many pagans are on this campus....or that live in this building!!!

OK ok stop ranting...sorry it just upsets me everything she has said for the almost 2 years I have known her said she would never be like this...it upsets me that she has betrayed me this way, and can not see any reason why it upsets me.
