just need to vent...
One of my best friends got a cat about a year ago. Sweets (the cat) was going to be abandoned by her previous ownes and Mel volunteered to take her. After many trips to the vet(Sweets was an ill kitty) and getting her spayed Mel moved out of her ex's apartment, but he won't let her take Sweets. Now Sweets has worms and he won't even take her to get the meds she needs. I think this is to spite Mel for leaving. It makes me so angry. The cat did nothing to desearve this. I even offered to come get Sweets and treat her, (since we have acolony we aready have the meds) But he won't even allow that. I can't even take the meds to him. UUUUGGGG!!! why is this so difficult to explain to him? I feel so bad because I can't do anything to help poor Sweets. And I am angry that he would do this to a poor animal. UUGGG!!!

It sounds like it is time to step up to the plate for this cat and get it out of the unhealthy environment. Even if you have to get animal control officers to help you. I would call animal control and tell them that this cat is being used in a hostage type of situation and that you know the cat is ill- though not critically,. Tell them you are concerned the cat may be receiving abuse because this person sounds a bit unbalanced to begin with. Have them arrange to meet you there and take possession of this animal.

If may very well be that this is a case for the police department to handle, but I would doubt they would waste their time. I would go the animal control route first. File a formal complaint, whatever it takes. If this man is so spiteful there is no telling what this cat is enduring.

You are, being that it is a holiday it would probably have to be an extreme emergency before they would intervene right away.

Prayers in the air for this unfortunate *hostage*

How awful! That poor babycat. I hope he lets Sweets out so the neighbor can catch him. I would say I was shocked, but it honestly doesn't surprise me. People use their children to hurt each other during a divorce so using a cat doesn't surprise me. Poor kitty. I'm sending Sweets some good thoughts!

If I were in her situation, I would have gotten the kitty out of there before she left him...sometimes you have to make preparations before a big change like that...

Let us know if you get her!

she didn't know she was leaving and had no where to go at first. She walked in on him with another woman (in her bed) and just left, So far she hasn't been able to get any of her things. But.... Sweets is now here with me. the neighbor called and I went and picked her up about half hour ago. already started the worm treament. On Monday Mel and I will take her to the vet. Looks like a new addition to my house cause Mel can't take her just yet, she will in about a week when she gets her new place. I'm just glad we got her out of there.

That's GREAT u got Sweets! KUDOS to u and that neighbor!!!! We need more ppl like u.
Bet Mel is really relieved to know that someone is taking care of Sweets until Mel can get her after she settles in.

Sounds like he's a real JERK!! He WILL get what he deserves someday.. Give Sweets a big kiss for me. I'm sure she's feeling not too great and a bit confused due to the changes in the environement but this is for the best.

U're an angel..

Sweets is resting in her own room with lots of things that smell like Mel. Any suggestions on how to make her feel better about being here? She went from being the only cat to being in a house of 12 or more and she is very unhappy about it. Feel bad for her. Gave her tuna juice on her food she eat it all up but she just seems so sad...

Sweets has been to the vet!!! we took her this morning. She is fine except for the worms and we are taking care of that already. She is hiding under the bed in her room right now. I think she's just a little scared with the change and all. but yeah!!! She is safe and on her way to being healthy!!

When we got Baby Girl she hid under the bed for a week, she went from being around one other kitty to being around 7. She'll be fine, she just needs time to adjust at her own pace.

You did a wonderful thing, Sweets is a very lucky kitty!
