With Hissy's suggestion and many ideas from friends, this week I established a new Helping Paws account - The Dakota Memorial Fund. Thanks to Donna who found a group sponsored by McDonalds to donate $350 and some of my volunteers and friends, we will have $500 to start with. We are going to have a raffle at every function we have specifically for the Dakota Fund and his painting, so generously offered by Darlene, will hang with his story. Our local paper will do a story on Dakota and the fund and ask that people maintaining feral and stray colonies write to us and tell us what they need in the way of spay/neuter and food. The Dakota fund will pay for the cats to go to our mobile unit and be altered and receive shots. We will then help with the maintenance of the colony until the sanctuary can open (and that is at least two years down the road) and we can relocate the cats there. Dakota was from a feral colony and deep in his heart he never lost those roots - and so it is only right that his memory lives on to help our less fortunate felines. This announcement is not a request for money, but if anyone would like to donate to the fund, please either PM me or email me privately [email protected].
