I have a 9 yr old fixed female Russian Blue. I also have a 9 yr old fixed male. They have been together since they were kittens. There is no doubt the female is dominate. The issue is she marks only my things or my daughters. Any thing of ours that is on the floor is fair game. She does not urinate on the carpet, rugs, or tile. She never marks my husbands things. I have tried several boxes in different rooms and different types of litter. She does not seem to have an issue with the boxes. I think she is just letting me know she is the boss. Any suggestions?

Hi cj-

Welcome to the board. I split off your thread as you had attached it to one that has been stickied, and no one would see it.

Usually when a cat is marking things (personal items) it is a comfort level for them. Is it possible that there is stress in this cat's life at the moment? Recent changes? Even something as minor as changing the furniture, or switching bedcovers can throw a cat into a stressful pattern.

It is always wise to take the cat to the vet to be checked for an UTI as well, and if she comes up clean, then you have to be a bit of a detective to find out what is causing the behavior.

The behavior has been going on for years. It does not happen all the time, thank goodness. She likes
my closet, shoes on the floor is her preference in there. The dirty clothes hamper or clothes I have sorted for washing is a target. And if I leave any thing made of material in the bathroom sink, wash rag or peice of clothing, it is a sure thing to get marked. I try not to leave targets and keep doors closed but when she sees a chance.....

Thanks for reply. I also have a feral stray that lives in my backyard I trapped her and had her sprayed. She is a beautiful orange tabby but will not let me touch her even though she has been around for 2 years. She just hisses at me and stays just out of arms lenght. So... her name is also Hissy.
