Did anyone watch The Swan last night?

I couldn't believe I watched it, but I was curious what they would term "ugly." I felt so sorry for those women who thought so little of themselves that they would go through all that torment- breast augmentation, liposuction, nose jobs, chin lifts, crash diets and exercise programs to become "beautiful." I really felt for the woman whose husband when he described her said she was "average."

Thankfully they also provided counseling and a personal trainer. I watched it all the way through, but doubt I will turn it on again. They are taking these reality shows way past the comfort level imo-

I liked the show, although I don't understand why someone needs to do plastic surgery to feel better about themselves, I also don't understand why they are going to be in a beauty contest, oh well...

Rachel's transformation was incredible.. she looked absolutely gorgeous afterwards. It is sad that they have to go through all that just to feel better about themselves but in some cases for some people its worth it to them.

Didn't watch the show, the NHL playoffs started last night.
Just wanted to comment on this.

My mother was what the outside world would call "average". Fought with her weight all her life, certainly wasn't a "classic beauty". But I heard my father talking to some teenage boys who were on our shooting team. They had been to the beach by Lake Erie and of course were commenting on the girls in bikinis there. (They had, of course, met my mother at the range at various matches....) Dad told them, "My wife may not be a beauty queen, but I married the only 10 I ever met." THAT'S love!

I would be horrified if my husband called me "average". No wonder she thought she needed all that surgery to feel better about herself!

Ditto Heidi! Not much else besides hockey will be on our tv for a while, but I did kind of want to see The Swan, just out of curiosity. Although I watched the show Extreme Makeover once and thought it was a little too, well, extreme I guess lol, with what the woman had done to themselves.

Ugh...Zack recorded it...so we watched the beginning and then when they walked up to the mirror and freaked! I just don't understand how they didn't catch themselves in mirrors everyday! I think it was just all an act when they opened the curtain to see their reflection...they cried!! HOW CAN YOU NOT WANT TO SEE YOURSELF THROUGH OUT THE PROCESS...GRRRR!! I hate it! I would have been checking myself out every week! Ugh!
For a woman to have that low of self-esteem, those two men should have done something way ahead of time to help them! When I was depressed, Zack told me to go see a doc...and he reminded me how beautiful I was every day! How dare that guy say she was "average". I would have gotten rid of him in a heartbeat! HA!

That's my two cents!

Didn't watch it, saw the previews & found the idea very sad. Plus, if everyone all looked the same life would be pretty boring.

Caprice is right - any man who would say that to his wife needs an attitude adjustment. How sad that she would suffer like that to please such a selfish man.

I watched most of this show and I thought they made it clear that there would be no mirrors available to look at until it was all over. I'm not going to get into whether I think this is a good thing or not. There are some other interesting issues. While both Kelly and Rachel seemed pleased with the results, what amazed me was how unsupportive their men were while they were away. From what the show let us see, they wouldn't even answer their phones most of the time. Besides that, I clearly remember what Rachel's husband said. His tone of voice and the look on his face said it all, and did you see how unaffectionate he was when they were supposedly cuddling on the couch? I don't think he was just nervous. If those women were really able to move forward from this, there's still the underlying problem of the kind of men they chose; at least for one of them.

I don't know. I've never been much for the idea of plastic surgery anyway, but I kind wished that they had skipped all the surgeries and just worked on the therapy and self-esteem issues.

I think it sends a message to women that if you feel bad about yourself, just get some plastic surgery and everything will be ok. It was too focused on how they looked and not on how they felt inside. I know they worked with therapists and trainers, but how will they feel when they're back to their real lives? I don't think they'll be any happier.

I also agree with this! IMHO, I think the women were beautiful already! Just a little makeup and some colorful clothing would have done the trick .... and once again...a new significant other would have helped them too
