Hi there-

First of all please stop spraying and yelling at your cat for doing what cats do by instinct, they hunt prey. This baby is a prey to your cat and chances are if your cat does get into the cage, the guinea pig will be killed. It is possible to train the two to get along, but I wouldn't advise it until the pig gets bigger, otherwise it is to tempting for the cat. He just thinks it is a bigger mouse than he has ever seen before.

Keep the cat out of the room where the pig lives for now, once it gets bigger you can expose them to each other gradually and they will accept each other in time.

i have always sprayed my cats w/ water dogs birds etc... to to use it as a training deal and its always worked as far as the yelling goes its not so much as a yell its a firm NO! and its impossible to keep him outta the room that the pig is in b/c he can open the door and if i lock it from the inside then no one is able to get in...any other suggestions????? im not going to get rid of a cat nor my sons guinea pig he just got 4 easter im just looking 4 a solution as to making him stay away from the pig we got 2 new birds 2 months ago and all 5 of my cats were the same way as simba is towards the pig and after 2 times from the water bottle simba along w/ the other 4 stoped messing w/ the birds.....

have yo tried to put your cage for the pig higher? it worked for my fish, the cats coudlnt jump as high and never bothered him. it might be worth a try.

First of all, NEVER ever spray your cat with water. This is a very bad way of training your cat. If by chance you would get water in your cats ear, he/she can get a very serious ear infection. Yelling at your cat will not work either. As Hissy has stated, your cat is doing what only comes natural for them. Just keep the guinea pig and cat apart, especially while you are not there to supervise. When the pig gets older and bigger, you can slowly introduce them. Please, stop the water spraying!

Have you tried one of those Habitrail cages? They're all plastic which makes it harder for the cat to break into.

I have a door my boys can open too. When I need to keep them out, I bungie cord the door to something heavy, like a table or the nearest door. Just make sure the bungie cord is pulled taut so the cat can't push his way in, and then get locked in the room permanently.

I liked Sandy's idea about the bungee cord, but if you can't do that can you move them to another room with a door Simba can't get into?

Or, there has to be some sort of cage out there that Simba can't get into.... I have never had any pets that required a cage so I am not really familiar with them.

No, for YOUR information, I am not crazy
I am a VERY intelligent person that knows a GREAT deal about cats. I have only had cats for my whole life, that's 42 years! And as my name implies, I own a wild bobcat as a pet. So, before you call anyone CRAZY, make sure you know the facts. I DO!!

Get off your soap box already, nobody likes a crybaby, and noone like someone who has to justify their existance. I'm new to this board, and you are newer, maybe you should get to know some people before acting like you are hot stuff.

If you want to continue this discussion, you are welcome to PM me. But this will be the last thing I say publically to you regarding this, so if you would like to have the last word, go right ahead.
