I'm getting SOOOOO excited! I pick Bobbi up Friday morning to bring her home with me! She's been very well cared-for by the shelter folks, who have had her fe-leuk updated, bloodwork and UA done, and they're sending her for a full dental (including an extraction
) tomorrow, so I can be sure she'll be in good health. I'm planning on DOUBLING their adoption fee check for all their help!

I went to visit her yesterday and got lots of lovin', including a couple head-butts!! So I'm confident her adjustment period will be easy and possibly faster than we expected.

She looooves high places, though, and I'm a bit concerned. The only access to the top of my kitchen cabinets is to jump to the top of the fridge from the STOVETOP, so I'm planning on keeping a careful eye on her as she explores the kitchen, and maybe laying down some foil while I'm away for the day to discourage her.

Does anybody know where I can get USED cat furniture, or plans to build some on the cheap? I'd have to save for a few months to buy any of the ones at the pet shops, and I want Bobbi to have a higher vantage point from the start, without climbing to the top of my closets/bookcases!

Rica, I am glad your cat is coming home. A note of caution, when you buy cheap furniture you usually get instability. Towers that are easily knocked over the first time the cat jumps on them, so you if you do go the more inexpensive route, be sure you secure the cat condo to either the wall or the floor so it doesn't injure the cat.

If you go to bizrate.com you will find all sorts of furniture in all sorts of price ranges. But again, buying from solid merchants like catsplay.com or felinefurniturecompany guarantees you are getting a quality piece of furniture that will last and be safe for your cat.

Congrats on Bobbi coming home!!!
She'll be SO happy to be in a real home instead of at the shelter. But don't be surprised if she hides for a while, it's a big transition for her especially after being at the shelter for so long.

Checked at www.meowhoo.com and found this: http://www.cat-tree-plans.com/ If you are at all handy, you can download the plans for cat trees for $9.95. I have this and it is step by step instructions, and includes purchase lists that you can take straight to The Home Depot or Lowes.

We had to put a door on our kitchen because one night one of our cats climbed up on the stove and turned the oven on!

Heidi, thanks for the link! that may be the way to go for me.

Hissy I know what you mean about you get what you pay for. I've seen some of the cheaper scratching posts that didn't stand up straight! I'm still looking, and I was pleasantly surprised at the prices for some of the kits at Feline Furniture Co.

unfortunately I have no way to close off my kitchen (i'm in a townhouse) so I'll have to get creative if it becomes an issue. I'm hardly ever home and I cook even more rarely, I just don't want to establish any bad habits.

Thanks to all for the advice and encouragement!
